Tracking info

I believe that Ebay could do all of us buyers a big favor by not letting the sellers list something as shipped as soon as they get a tracking number.  I'm tired of the sweetheart deal between sellers and delivery services where they say " shipment delivered, acceptance pending".  This allows sellers to claim they have shipped the item when all they have done is generate a shipping label. I have seen my packages sit in this limbo land for weeks without moving.  I know shipments take time, but just be honest about when you REALLY ship it.   I think we would all see better service if they were only allowed to list it as shipped if the tracking number says "in transit".

It's not the seller that is marking the item shipped, it's Ebay.

As soon as we purchase a shipping label, Ebay tells the buyer the item has been shipped and it should say your item is preparing to ship.

Re: Tracking info

You're missing the point, it should not be reported as shipped no matter who is doing the reporting.  Also sellers do participate in this deception as I just had to contact one about this problem. He claimed he had already dropped it off but amazingly next morning after my message, the tracking updated to in transit. I send packages all the time by USPS and I have never had them take one without scanning it and the tracking info never shows up as "acceptance pending". Ebay would be well served to not post something as shipped when its not. This is why we are losing market share to amazon because they know they will get their goods on time.

I agree.

Buyers and sellers have been complaining about it for years.

Re: Tracking info

Not every seller stands in line to get a scan. Instead of assuming sellers are lying or trying to be deceptive, why not think of other possibilities?

I stand in line for a scan because my insurance company requires a scan to show it was dropped off and ebay requires a scan within 1 business day of order for Top Rated Seller status. Prior to those requirements I used a drop bin and sometimes the post office didn't scan anything until delivery. I think it wise for sellers to get a scan, but it is not a requirement. I only occasionally run into sellers/stores that hold on to packages for a long time (several days) after creating a shipping label.

Re: Tracking info

It's marked as 'shipped' when the tracking number is created but it still counts against the seller's metrics if the package doesn't get a carrier scan within the stated handling time.

So, essentially, the seller DOES get penalized for uploading a tracking number and not shipping immediately... but that penalty isn't visible to buyers. It affects seller level.
