Tracking for return to Canada

Hello, I recently purchased some comic books from Canada. They arrived the other day, and they were not in the condition as described. The seller refuses to give a refund without returning, and my understanding of the eBay money back guarantee is that he has to pay return shipping. The comics were only $12 US total, but eBay requires me to send them back with a tracking number, and from my research, I believe the cheapest tracking that would be scanned for sure going to Canada is Priority Mail International, which is about $36 US. Even though the return shipping would cost that much, the seller is still responsible for this cost if he insists on the return, is that correct? Also, if they arrive back to him past 60 days after I purchased them, I’ll still get my refund, correct? Thanks.

On International Returns, eBay can't automatically issue a label.

On MBG Returns (Not as Described), the seller must either:

1) Manually provide a label or

2) Send the buyer money via PayPal to purchase a label.

If the seller does neither, you can ask eBay to step in on the 4th Business day after opening the Not as Described return.

First Class International is tracked and can be used for packages up to 4 lbs.

Look into that and send the seller a quote.

They can purchase the label online on USPS.com and send you a PDF of the label.

If they send the label or funds for the label, make sure to get an acceptance scan on your package.

And, yes, you will get your refund when the item arrives back to the seller.  Even with all of the slowdowns, it should not take 60 days

Re: Tracking for return to Canada

Hey, thanks for your reply. I’ve used First Class Mail International before and been lucky enough to get delivery scans but I thought that a delivery scan wasn’t guaranteed with that service? The seller has been quite difficult already, I find it unlikely they’ll provide the label or funds for one, especially being the postage back is going to cost more than the items did, so I’m assuming I’ll have to have eBay step in either way.

FCI includes tracking and delivery scans to other countries if they are on the EDELCON list.

Canada is on the list and is actually very good about it 🙂

If the seller is being 'difficult' ... yes, you will probably just end up asking eBay to step in ... but it doesn't hurt to be the professional one in the transaction ... remind them politely what their obligations are under the MBG 🙂

Re: Tracking for return to Canada

Thanks again for your help, I sell as well so I always bend over backwards to work it out with sellers first, I don’t like going to eBay about things unless there’s absolutely no other option. I did remind him of how the MBG policy works and that he would be responsible to give me the money to pay for the return shipping even if it is more than the cost of the item. He said he’s going to contact eBay about that but I know they’re going to tell him the same thing I did.

No guarantee rep will tell seller that. They kind of change what they say depending on if buyer or seller.

1st class to Canada is generally perfect. No issues except Covid

Re: Tracking for return to Canada

Either way though, there’s no way around the fact that if the seller wants the items returned, they have to pay for the shipping cost of the label even if it’s more than the cost of the item, is that correct?

Re: Tracking for return to Canada

Great, thanks again for all of your guys’ help. Even after reminding the seller of this fact and the MBG policy, he’s insistent that I’m responsible for the return shipping, so even though I prefer working it out directly with the seller, I just went ahead and opened the claim so this could get resolved. I appreciate all of the clarification once again.
