The post office general is about to make huge changes to the post office.

The postoffice is making huge changes, that will slow down mail.  The public is usually not aware. But in Des Moines Iowa a rally was held to alert the public. Planes will no longer be used for first class mail and several post offices will close. Employees want to let the public know.  For one month, the public can voice their concern.  Rachel Maddow show on Msnbc Friday night show, has the entire story of what is happening. I need this eBay job and I need the mail. After 26 years on eBay. I’m very nervous about this.

Well, your right. After 17 years shipping with the post office last year was a disaster.

I would normally have 1 or 2 problems a year. This out of 40,000 sales on just ebay. After last year I raised my prices and now ship everything priority mail.I also put in my descriptions a notification to that effect.I offer free shipping.A one person company.

Of course if you sell low priced items I don't know if you could do this.I have some low priced and they do continue to sell.

It appears we will need to add a shipping disclaimer to cover ourselves (that no one will READ)

You mean we're going back to the old fashioned air mail, where the envelopes had the alternating red, white, and blue border around the edge of the envelope?  ...and there are higher-priced stamps for air mail?

I'm sure there will be a faster, more expensive option for First Class Parcels than trucking.

Can't wait to see what they will dump on us next.

USPS and eBay are so fun and full of surprises!

Re: The post office general is about to make huge changes to the post office.

What everyone should do is stop using the USPS altogether for the holiday season. With the Oct 3 2021 USPS increase it will almost be as costly to send a First Class package via USPS vs UPS.  This will relieve the USPS of the pressure of having to deliver too many packages. The USPS loses money everyday, what the hell! The USPS raises prices and cuts back on the service and then the package does not get delivered and the Ebay seller EATS IT!  Great idea the USPS comes up with. Hell of a marketing plan!  The USPS raises prices, cuts back on service and wonders why more people are not flocking to USPS to mail their packages. The USPS claims the most profitable part of their business is the First Class stamps. Most people pay their bills online thru their bank because stamps are too expensive. Yo, USPS the way of the world has changed,  WAKE UP! Also email's can be sent quickly and cheaply via internet or phone. The USPS does nothing if your package takes weeks or months to deliver. Then they do stupid things to slow down shipping times and then wonder why they are losing money. I think the people running the USPS are former executives of Sears, JCP  and Korvettes.

In all fairness the USPS was formed over 200 years ago and is viable and important part of our culture. It is not a business but a government service. It is being destroy by Congress who mandated that Health Care costs are taken from profits even before they are paid out. No other government agency has that requirement. So to the men and women that are hard working caring employees, I do appreciate all you do

and realize that you are not at fault for all the problems that have been created.

I'm not sure that's accurate. The First Class rate will increase by $0.30 per package - even with that increase, shipping with UPS will still be 50-60% more expensive than USPS for lightweight items.

And FedEx is going to add a fuel surcharge. From the news tonight, it will take a first class letter 2 more days to cross the country. (5 instead of 3)

I saw this map tonight that helps to illustrate some of the new changes to First Class Mail.

Re: The post office general is about to make huge changes to the post office.

I should have been a little more detailed. First UPS includes insurance on all there UPS ground shipments up to $100 , USPS  First Class mail is additional.  UPS rates allow up to 1 pound whereas USPS charges about $6.00 for a 1-lb package (actually 15.9 oz) and UPS charges about $7.87 for the same package. Also if you compare USPS Priority mail costs vs UPS ground, UPS is the better deal without all the nonsense the USPS delays cause. USPS is making themselves comparable to other carriers in price but not in service.

I hate watching deliveries sit stagnant at USPS distribution centers for weeks at a time. When this happens it always at a great disservice to the buyer and seller alike. At least UPS will do more to get a shipment to you whereas the USPS just says too bad!

Yes, there are certainly more competitively priced shipping options available for higher value items over 1 pound.

For those of us who regularly ship using USPS First Class Package Service for lightweight items under $50, there is no other affordable alternative.

BREAKING|Sep 29, 2021,04:08pm EDT -- Forbes

New USPS Standards That Could Slow Down Mail Start Friday

TOPLINE The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will begin controversial
new service standards on Friday that could slow down some mail
delivery in another disruptive and widely denounced move from
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

KEY FACTS
Transit time for first-class mail traveling longer distances will be extended.

The changes, part of DeJoy’s “strategic 10-year-plan,” will cut costs by transporting
first-class mail through trucks, not airplanes as is the current standard.

A USPS spokesperson claimed that 61% of first-class mail and 93% of periodicals
would not be disrupted by the changes.

Already having slowdowns - this will make that even slower!
