Tariffs

Hello,

I purchased this item on August 18th.

It is PS1 Tours also Spyro X Sparks tons Sony Sony PlayStation 1 Japan Import.

It is from Tokyo, Japan.

I paid $56.65 for it.

And it says it is being shipped using usps and it also says Due to US policies, import fees for this item will need to be paid to customs or the shipping carrier on delivery.

You can find out more information about tariff
rates based on the item description from the
Harmonized Tariff Schedule. Additional duty

rates may apply based on the item's type and
"Country/Region of Manufacture" (country of
origin), which may be found in the item
description.

Multiply the tariff percentage by your total
order amount shown at checkout.

Shipping providers (e.g., UPS) or US Customs
will charge processing fees ranging from

$10-$30.

It's being shipped using usps.

24% x (US$56.65) = $14

So, how much do I owe when it is delivered?

Re: Tariffs

Can you please contact the seller Egg prince (whom I bought the item from)?

I need to know the flat fee and custom.

I'm still very very confused.

Does it mean that I will have to pay tariff or something once they come?

You said throwing star. No need to talk to them. Info can be ascertained from tracking and listing.

The game is in fact made in Japan.

Seller used Japan Post/USPS. Tracking number works with both (I tested various shippers to figure this out)

Japan post tracking:

Detailed Search Results - Japan Post

Capture,dcsjlkcjksc.PNG

This says arrival at outward exchange office (customs) 8/26. USPS says it was processed though the same facility...

USPS.com® - USPS Tracking® Results

Capture'dc'kdsc;dsckjckdsc.PNG

What matters is when it updates and says it hits the US. We don't know that yet. So don't know if you will owe a tariff.

Seller probably didnt send it as a gift. So no 'gift under $100 exemption. The listing states duties and fees are to be paid by buyer.

So if it hits customs after deminis ends, (in 3 hours) you will owe a tariff.

Tariff will likey be $80 plus fees... or $8.50 plus fees. Fees would be handling fees for carrier.

Japan Post halted shipments to try and figure this out.... this still let a bunch through to get hit with a tariff. Maybe they are using you as a guinea pig to figure out what they are doing.

Thank you for the tracking, and for coming back and responding. Please continue to do so. We are learning together how this will play out.

The provided text is a statement of U.S. customs policy changes taking effect on August 29, 2025, eliminating the tariff exemption for low-value packages and introducing duties on items, even those worth less than $800, including a flat fee and duty based on the item's value, which USPS will collect. For a $60 item from Japan, you would likely pay an $80-$200 flat fee plus a percentage of the item's value, resulting in approximately $89 in total costs collected by USPS at delivery.

I am assuming that is a copy/past of an AI answer. If so you need to be extra cautious with AI on the subject as it AI is pulling from old and new info and opinions. There are so many changes it hard to get an accurate answer on such a frequently changing subject. Always check the sources AI uses... you may find nothing that specifically supports Ai's claims.

The flat fee is a temporary option for 6 months, which carriers can use till they figure things out. The other option is the only option that availble after the 6 months: Ad Valorem, which is the countries actual tariff rate. (15% for Japan).

I see nothing definitively saying what Japan post will use. Only that they have stopped shipments on the 27th.

There is no way to know at this time, Sorry

Japan post is a National Postal Carrier. They have nothing to do with tariffs. They ship out... then USPS takes over... USPS brings it through customs.

Unlike DHL and Fedex who bring it into the country.

From what I see USPS has not figured out what they are doing to calculate tariff rate (how this is possible is beyond me).. therefore the carriers that use them are confused (just like you and I) and that is why they are halting shipments.

You won't know until your package hit's the USPS International Service Center (should be the next tracking number update), and then the USPS contacts you via phone number or email you have provided ebay for tariff collection. When or if that happens is a big mystery.

No way to be certain. It's another mystery I guess. Used to be $5.50 plus $6.50. So it could be $12 or they could raise it.

Re: Tariffs

According to AI Overview

USPS handling fees for mail from Japan to the USA are not a fixed price, but rather a $6.00 fee per dutiable item that is collected from the recipient when the item is delivered to cover customs processing costs. In addition, the recipient is also responsible for paying any levied customs duties, and there is a separate $5.50 processing fee charged by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

I now see it's for Carrier and Customs.  Used to be $5.50 and $6.50. See nothing that suggests it changes. In my opinion. We just dont know at this time.
