So I dropped a package off on Monday to USPS, it is now Friday and on tracking it still says pre shipment and normally by now I would at least see something be updated in tracking, Is this normal, or something do with with the holidays and the virus?

After 6 days tracking finally says origin accepted USPS is really getting slow during the holidays and this virus also its helping.

you should have taken it to the counter and had them scan it instead of drop off:
Yes USPS is having great difficulty at this time.
If the purchaser files an item not received and it does not show movement you will have to refund>
It is also hitting your metrics with this.

I agree it is best to at least get the initial scan by waiting in line at the post office. However, it will probably eventually be scanned in. I am currently pulling my hair out because the majority of my packages are currently either arriving late or seemingly lost. Luckily, the one that was most lost has now been scanned but is about a week and a half late (so far). Good luck!

It's both and is the norm lately. Many Post office clerks are refusing To scan Even if you wait in line. Dont let it bug you too much. It's just the state of life right now.

@pooh333piglet Hopefully thats all that is, just hate to see that it hasnt even been scanned once yet but ive heard they are over flowing in packages and have trucks full just waiting to start processing so probably will be all good.

Well it's happening to my packages as well. As a long time seller I just cant worry about all this craziness anymore. Its life. I take care of what I need to with buyers, check tracking and let it go. Theres very little, if anything a seller can do.

If you search this forum, you will see more about this. I am having the same problem. I had a USPS employee in another region tell me these backed up offices and hubs are not origin scanning as there are metrics recorded used in internal evaluations. They are opting to let them get scanned along the way.
With that said, here is some possible light at the end of the tunnel. In my Monday batch, not a single package was origin scanned, and these were expensive items. I was scared as while fully insured, no origin scanning how can I prove they actually had them to claim the insurance?
Today 2 of the 5 packages have suddenly been scanned once leaving my regional office, and an acceptance at the hub. So, I am feeling a little better that it is slowly showing up and isn't in a landfill somewhere.

That is good to hear, hopefully you other 3 end up good as well.

Happened to me once, shame on USPS. Won't happen again (no shame on me), now I wait in line, face to face with a postal employee, make sure it's scanned, and I request a receipt.
