I've been buying and selling on Ebay since something like 2002. The past few times I've sold on here, I've had nothing but issues with scammers and I'm getting really annoyed - to the point where I don't even want to use Ebay anymore.
I just sold an item a few days ago, where the person who purchased it used the -Buy-it-Now and paid immediately. The buyer has 78 feedback and looks to be pretty legit. I, however, received a message from a different Ebayer hours later, with a message that said:
"Hello!
I just bought **** ****,from you I hope all is great with that item.. p.s I wanna change shipping address coz my dad got sick and I have to move out of town to hospital to take care, sorry for bothering and here is the shipping u have to send it:
That second Ebayer, the scammer, now shows that they are no longer a registered user after being a member for just one day. This is really starting to **bleep** me off, as I know this is a scam but am trying to figure out if the person who actually purchased the item is legit and how the scammer was able to know that I sold that specific item and how they found me. This is all just very odd, and I'm done with trying to sift through all the scammers and make sure I ship my high-ticket item to a non-scammer. I stopped shipping internationally a few years back because of scams that I was receiving.
Does anyone know if my sale was legit or if this was some kind of scam?
Thanks.

Items sold by a seller are easily found by anyone on eBay.
I could look up your 'solds' and send you the exact same message.
Ignore the message from the now banished user and ship to the buyer who won the auction .

Wow, you are shipping used grills.
A much braver soul than I .

Interesting scam - thanks for giving a heads up!
While it sounds like the second email was from a scammer and you were right to ignore them, it appears as though the eBay policy has changed or become flexible when it comes to alternate addresses.

How to change your shipping address
When you're buying an item, we'll pre-populate your preferred shipping address in the order summary, which you'll see just before checkout. Make sure this is where you want your item to be sent before completing your purchase.
If you want to make a change, select a different address in the Ship to field on the checkout page. If the address you want your item delivered to isn't shown, select Add a new address and complete the required details.
You can also change your preferred shipping address in the Addresses section of My eBay. From here you can also add new addresses or delete old ones.
If you've already completed your purchase but need to make a change, contact the seller as soon as possible to let them know.
Looks like ebay is catching up with AZN in allowing alternate address shipping. Also saw something similar in a seller help area that stated, as long as there is email evidence that the buyer requested an address change, the the seller is protected from an INR claim at the original address.

PayPay, and CC/DC are not likely to accept the changed address.

PayPal and a CC will absolutely NOT accept the changes address. The seller MUST ship to the address on the buyers payment in order to have seller protection.

Hey, can you help us out with links to the policy in PayPal that prohibits this?
What about eBay's new check out form that allows a seperate or 'other' ship to address? Does that set a seller up for a bad position with PayPal or CC?
Isn't there a way to respond to CC charge backs?
