First time I had an experience like this and I was hoping someone else had a similar experience and was able to provide some insight. Bought an item on 5/11, seller listed handling time of 3 days and "economy shipping". Shipped out on 5/17 (after I sent a followup email) which is past the handling time and now 19 days later, the package still has not arrived. For a $700 dollar item, is it unreasonable to expect a quicker shipping/handling time? Has anyone recieved some partial refund or anything else in situations like this? I recieved a different item ordered on the same day as this one 14 days ago and this item in question is still not out for delivery, four days past the latest "expected by" date, and probably wont be delivered for another 2-3 days judging by its current location.
Thank you for your input!

The seller missed his handling time by 1 day. If you want compensation for late delivery, you need to buy items with a guaranteed delivery date, that way you can get a coupon for the shipping box if the seller ships late or the item arrives after the guaranteed delivery date. I won’t file an INR case if the item will be delivered in 2-3 days because you will lose and you won’t be able to leave feedback. Once you get the item, you can return it for a full refund since it arrived after the delivery estimate.

Hi Jen,
I was more concerned with the customer service aspect of yes, missing the handling time by 1 business day but moreso chosing to ship with a service that will take over two weeks. I also had to follow up with the seller to ask about when it will be shipped. For a $5 item this wouldnt be an issue, but $700... So the seller in your opinion should still get a positive rating?
Personally whenever I sold items on ebay I list 3 day handling but im at the post office next day. Since im not a powerseller shipping hundreds of packages a week (just like this seller isnt) ill even ship out saturday since the post office is open and always do first class shipping. I just think its good customer service. Maybe im too critical for that reason but to wait what will be 3 weeks for an item that (from my last 50 purchases of similar items) should take 4 days + handling time, is unreasonable.

I would consider compensating factors like the condition of the item, how well it matched the description, how carefully it was packed, etc.
Raking someone over the coals for 1 day over the handling time is a bit excessive in my opinion.

I agree with you there, I am not so much worried with 1 day past the handling time and wouldnt leave a negative review because of that alone, but moreso that the seller went with a shipping option that isnt typical for this item, and probably saved him $1 (literally) on top of the delay and comparing this experience to probably 100 other purchases on ebay that ALL arrived in 8 days max with handling time factored in there, it almost seems wrong. At least not the greatest customer service to have someone wait 3 weeks for an item that should be there in 1 week.

Personally, I would have contacted the seller before buying and asked if there were options other than economy shipping given the value of the item. Economy isn't exactly synonymous with fast.

The seller deserves whatever feedback YOU think is appropriate. The only reason I mentioned not opening a case yet, so that the ability to leave feedback isn't blocked, isn't because I think the seller deserves positive feedback. I mentioned it just so you would be aware of the consequence of losing an INR case, IF leaving feedback, whether it be positive or negative, is important to you. Without seeing the listing & without knowing what the shipping method specified on the listing was & what method he actually used, I have no opinion on what feedback the seller deserves. Missing the handling time by 1 time is hardly an issue IMO. If he shipped using the method specified on the listing, then I don't think negative feedback is deserved. I don't think this situation entitles you to any compensation. For all anyone knows, the seller did drop the package at the PO on the 16th. Delivery dates are just estimates, if you wanted to be compensated for something like this, you need to buy from sellers who are enrolled in the guaranteed delivery program.

why does seller deserve a ding for shipping the way he stated he would which you agreed to by buying and paying? It is not poor customer service to do as the listing stated. If you wanted faster you should have asked and paid for a faster service or found another seller.Once shipped seller as no control over how fast the carrier moves.

Seller is not without fault because they did miss their stated handling time by one day, but sometimes life gets in the way and it seems you can live with that.
Not sure why you would consider requesting a partial refund or withholding a "positive rating" (by that I assume you mean positive feedback and shipping stars) because the item is taking a long time to get to you....after all, the Seller provided the Economy shipping service you agreed to and paid for.
eBay's estimated delivery date is just that, an ESTIMATE. And it is eBay's estimate, not an estimate or guarantee provided by the Seller or the Shipper. Most Shipping companies will show an expected delivery date when you track the package---I'm curious if eBay's estimated date is the same as the shipping company's date.

True, that is probably the route I will have to take next time I encounter someone offering economy shipping. Never had anyone ship that way before so it didnt come across my mind to even ask.

For what its worth, the post office gave an estimate of 5/26. But as others have said, it doesnt matter much because sellers dont control how fast the post office moves. Its for that same reason its upsetting to see how much of a delay there will be for offering that shipping option. At least for a $700 purchase.
EDIT: ebay had an est delivery of 5/18-5/26

Was it a large and/or heavy item?

If slow shipping on a $700 purchase is that much of an issue, why didn't you inquire about an upgrade?
