Showing Cubic instead of LBs or Ounces in my Printed Label

I printed a shipping label.

Instead of LBs or Ounces It is Showing Cubic on the Label.

It said Cubic .40

This Has Never Happened to me Before.

What is going on?

I did not notice it.

I Took it to the Post Office and The Lady at the Counter Told Me About it.

She Accepted the Package with the Label like that.

It happens from time to time, depending on the measurements of the package vs the weight.    Lightweight items in boxes that take up more space seem to do it more.    If you google "USPS dimensional weight", you'll get some more detailed info.

Sometimes the weighted rate is lower.

Sometimes the cubic rate is lower.

eBay will default to whichever is lower based on your package weight and dimensions to offer you the best rate. That's a good thing.

Some USPS clerks have no idea what it is. If they are hesitant to accept it, you need to tell them it is part of USPS commercial rate offerings.

Perfectly normal. Nothing to worry about. BUT be advised that the counter clerks have ZERO training in online postage.

Remember when first class online went to 15.999 ounces? These boards were filled with complaints about clerks refusing the package. Forewarned is forearmed. So I printed out the appropriate online instruction page and brought it with me. Buttonholed the most senior clerk. I could se by his reaction that he had never heard of it. And he was the supervisor. I never had a problem with it from then on.

I was having a problem with one clerk on a first class international package. She was measuring length plus girth and refusing the package as too big. I caught the eye of a clerk that I was sure knew me. She glanced over and said "Yeah, he knows more about the rules than we do" Shouldn't that be other way around?
