Shipping to an address other than mine

I bought some yarn for my granddaughter and wanted it to ship to her so I added her name and address for shipping information but noticed it was sent to me. The seller told me he HAD to ship to me, the registered owner per EBay rules. I have sent items to other addresses and people in the past, what gives?

Your seller was incorrect.  He is supposed to ship to the address he sees on the invoice when you pay.

There are many buyers here who have items sent directly to other people, like relatives, friends, the beach house they will be at (hopefully) when the item is delivered.

As long as your granddaughter's address was entered as the ship to address with your payment, it shouldn't have been a problem.   I'm not even sure how the seller would see your address in that scenario.

Question: Did you actually edit and change the address on the sales slip before you paid for it?

Or did you simply attach a note?

If all you did was attached a note/request then the seller was right and we mostly would have all generally done the same thing.

This is what I was going to say. The way in which the OP wrote that sentence leads me to believe she simply added a buyer's note to ship to the other address. In that case the seller was absolutely correct. Only by actually changing the shipping address when you pay can a buyer use a different address....

You sent a note.  You needed to edit the SHIP TO ADDRESS before you finalized the payment.  The seller has to ship to the address in the payment.  Why, let's say you are dishonest and he ships to your granddaughter, you can open an item NOT received case and you would receive a full refund and the seller would lose the money.  This is a tactic used by scammers everyday.    As a seller , Ebay stresses constantly to : SHIP TO THE ADDRESS ON THE PAYMENT.   He was simply complying.  Give the seller a break and don't give him a bad review.
