Shipping postcards

A few months ago I started selling vintage postcards here on eBay. I find it to be pretty fun and interesting.  I offer free shipping and have over 400 cards listed. All of a sudden the option for .63 cent shipping is gone. I had to pay 3.80 to ship each card sold today, which is basically a loss. I contacted support via chat and was given incorrect info. They said I had to change the category to one that had this option which made no sense as the envelope and weight are already specified in the shipping policy. At any rate, what I did was create a new shipping policy and apply it to all the listings, which I see as a temp fix for now as I am now forced to charge .83 cents for shipping. I was just wondering if anyone else ran into this and what was their solution? I am currently investigating other platforms as well. Thanks , have a great day.

Customer support was correct @miket33

Beatles postcard was listed in the Antiques > Other Antiques category

Beer labels are not postcards so wouldn't have qualified anyway.

I don't see any other postcards sold today.

Most of your listings will qualify as they're listed in the postcards category. You will not be able to purchase an eSE label for these 6 postcards listed in the Antiques > Other Antiques category unless you move them to the postcard category:

Also, the "comic postcards" will not qualify because it's a lot of 6 and you can't ship more than 3 together in an eSE package.

Re: Shipping postcards

Hey thanks for the response.  Support provided me with this list of categories (below) that are eligible for the ebay standard envelope and I did not see in Collectibles > Postcards & Supplies > Postcards in this list. That Beatles card might have been in the wrong category as I made the listing before creating the template I started created using the Collectibles > Postcards & Supplies > Postcards category. The one for the listing of 6 I did set with a different shipping template since it's a larger package. I didn't realize the beer labels could not ship this way, I assumed it was based on the envelope size and weight, which in this case is the same as the postcards. Thanks again for the response.

Re: Shipping postcards

@miket33

83 cents ----is that for eBay Standard Envelope that gets the # that is scanned as metered (no acceptance scan, and no carrier delivered scan by the person delivering) mail along the way?

You can just ship in an envelope 1st Class for 66 cents with no #, and mark as shipped when you mail it. (no seller protection for INR)

of course, without the # it will count against your Top Rated metrics.

Re: Shipping postcards

Hi. It was what came up when I manually created a new shipping policy,  I selected the ebay standard envelope option and applied it to every listing. It then made shipping 87 cents for all of the listings (sorry when I said 83 I meant 87).  I initially had the listings set as free shipping and it was always 63 cents based on the size and weight of the envelope (6x4 and .5 oz). The impression that I got from chat support was that this category is no longer eligible for the 63 cent shipping but I don't know anymore. Maybe I am missing something here. Thanks for the response!

Re: Shipping postcards

That list is not all-encompassing @miket33 because the rep only gave you a list of categories for trading cards. See the link I posted above. Coins, money, stamps and post cards are eligible, but only if listed in the appropriate categories. There are other restrictions to the service, as well.

Re: Shipping postcards

Hey thanks again, I guess I just jumped the gun based on two listings I thought were the same as all of the others, I just assumed shipping was only based on size and weight of the package\envelope regardless of the category.  I wish the ebay rep had sent me the complete list or mentioned that postcards could still be shipped with the standard envelope option and that nothing had changed. Knowing what you tell me now, what they were telling me in chat makes no sense! I'm assuming they saw the two items from today and thought that all the others are in the same category or something. I don't know. I wish I had posted on here before contacting chat, you have been super helpful, I appreciate it. Now I need to try and fix the listings!

Re: Shipping postcards

You're welcome. Great to hear the info was helpful.

You only have 6 postcard listings in the wrong category so it should be a fairly quick fix.
