Shipping policy from eBay

eBay allows UPS and Fed Ex to use our funds as their personal piggybank.I measure and weigh items exactly correct and then round up,First time Fedex cried to eBay about shipping mistake  and they were allowed access to my funds and took over 20$.So I stopped using them. Now UPS is doing the same thing, they cry to eBay and without any notice eBay takes my money. If anyone wasn't paying attention I MEASURE AND WEIGH ITEM ABSOLUTELY CORECT AND ROUND UP. This is an obvious scam that eBay is allowing.

You can place your round tubes inside rectangular boxes to avoid that surcharge go-forward @mlmas06 , or you can use USPS since they don't currently apply a surcharge for round tubes.

There are many surcharges with UPS and FedEx that are not factored in until the carrier physically reviews the package as eBay's shipping calculator does not currently have a way to factor in non-standard packaging.

In order to help you determine if your charge was legit or in error (and how to appeal), view the label details and expand the section on the bottom right that says see cost breakdown (highlighted below in green). Black out order #, tracking #, and buyer ID and post a screenshot.

Please also provide a physical description of the package (box, bag, tube, handle, etc).

You can find guides for all carriers on eBay Seller Center under "preventing shipping label price adjustments."

Hi thanks for replying .What makes me think it's a scam is the "weight" on my adjustment message was 4 lbs. The "Billable weight by carrier" was 64 ounces.I would think eBay would notice that 4 lbs and 64 ounces are the same. The fed ex issue months ago was the same thing.Weight and billable weight by carrier were the same.

Any company you buy shipping labels from is going to charge you if a carrier adjustment happens.

So, you can be mad that literally every company would deduct the funds from you.

Just because the weight may have been adjusted, that isn't necessarily the reason why the funds were deducted.

The more common adjustment on eBay with UPS and FedEx is the type of packaging used.

when the weight and billable weight are identical why is there an adjustment made?

You didn't provide a screenshot to show why the adjustment was made.

However, the carrier will make adjustments that are standard.

You could see an adjustment if your dimensions submitted at 7x30x7. UPS may change that to 30x7x7. Because UPS considers Length to be the longest side.

However, if UPS made that adjustment doesn't mean it changes the billing.

Anything over 1 lb is standard to be submitted in lbs not ounces.

I don't know how to provide a screenshot. I'm looking at it right now on my phone. On the message from eBay it says weight on label 64oz. Below that it says billable weight 4 lbs. Then when I click view adjustment it says weight 4lbs and below that it has dimensions and below that it has billable weight by carrier 4 lbs. nothing in red indicating an error.

Size of the package?
Too much tape?
Not enough tape?
Odd shape?
New manager at a terminal wanting to impress somebody.
Employees at a terminal that can't measure.
Employees at a terminal mad at their job or joking around thinking it's funny to upgrade packages.
OR.....Something about the shipment just made somebody mad during transit and they upgraded it because they could.
FedEx and UPS have done this for as long as I can remember (many years).  Even with my own shipping accounts.  And no feasible way to argue it.

Well, if you scroll up and see the image above by @wastingtime101 you seem to be describing the information on the left side.

What I'm curious about is the information on the right side.

This information

If the adjustment is from 'Additional handling' then It is most likely a packaging issues not a weight issue.

A lot of replies @mlmas06 , but so far you have not provided info I requested above including a physical description of the package and the info from "see cost breakdown" which you can copy/paste if you don't know how to take a screenshot.

For example, some of those items look like maybe you could have shipped them in a round tube. This is why physical description of packaging is essential, because round tubes are non-standard and will result in a cost adjustment after the fact.

Ebay is just another customer to UPS and FEDEX.

They have driven customers far bigger than Ebay away from them.

They set the rules of the game. When you buy their services through Ebay or another service, you get a lower price and no direct customer service from them. If there is a billing problem, they will not explain to you.

Your choice to play or not to play.
