I had a listing with up to 10 available. I had it set to calculate shipping.
One buy purchased all of them, it multiplied the weight but didn't increase the box size. It figured the cost of shipping 10X the weight in the same size box that one item will fit in.....
Only one item will fit in a box this size. So, in order to increase my box size (I'll need 2 very large boxes) I end up being quite short on enough to cover my shipping costs. Any solution besides just eating the loss? What should I have done to prevent this happening?

I just ship everything for free.

This is an ongoing issue with calculated shipping, box size is MUCH more important now than weight. I finally had to turn off eBay's "combined shipping" on all calculated shipping items and put a note in the description to contact us for combined shipping. It's a major pain in the neck and I'm sure I have lost sales over this.

Free shipping takes box size into consideration and is more profitable when multiple items are purchased at the same time.

Are these boxes going to a buyer in zones 5-8 ? You are paying extra for dimensional weight.
See if you can get the items into perhaps 4 smaller boxes.
OK. I looked at the items you sold. Sleeping bags. They are NOT going to compress very well. I don't know if the regional boxes will help or not. The A box ships at the 2# rate, and I think the B box ships at the 5# rate. I'm thinking to ship each bag in one box if they will fit.

Sleeping bags? Yikes on the dimensional rates. If you are going to continue to sell them I would recommend looking into a vacuum packing unit, get the down downsized.

How does free shipping not take box size into consideration?
How is free shipping not more profitable when multiple items are purchased at the same time?
