Hello.
Returning to selling on eBay. Again I am getting confused with shipping options. I entered item dimensions and weight and the system offered many options and different shipping carriers. The item I am selling is 14”x13”x10”, so why do I see shipping options for small envelops? Why the system doesn’t filter out all useless shipping options and just leaves suitable ones?
How do I know what shipping options should I select then?
I went to the local postal service and showed them all options eBay listed as available. The employee said that none of those options were suitable for the item I am interested to sell. I was offered to buy my own box and then check back for the shipping cost.
So how can I post an item and select correct shipping cost? Very confusing.
Also. If I want to pay for shipping myself I still have to select shipping method I will be using. The way I understand I even tho I pay for the shipping myself eBay still wants me to use their shipping labels so eBay can track down the item? Is that correct?
Thanks

No, that's not correct. Tracking is recommended so that you are protected against fake "Item not received" claims. All package postage comes with tracking; if you purchase your label through eBay the tracking number is automatically recorded in the transaction. But you are allowed to purchase postage anywhere you choose, and then you can enter the tracking number into your transaction by hand.
Another reason that you have to choose the shipping method when you set up the listing, is so that the buyer knows what method you plan to use and how much it will cost them.
Since eBay shows you options that aren't appropriate, clearly it is your own responsibility to learn about your options so you can make a reasonable choice yourself without relying on eBay to figure it out for you. The dimensions that you gave would ship as either Priority Mail or Parcel Select Ground.

Thanks for the reply. I am not trying to make a training class here, just want to verify few things.
I have watched videos where eBay customer service person educated how to select shipping methods. She just measured the box, weighed it and used eBay shipping calculator (based on most distant locations). Then selected lowest cost. That was it.
I noticed the options you suggested for my package matches what eBay shipping calculator shows. The way I see it you just selected cheaper option?

I would just go to the carrier site, input the size & weight and see what they offer. Check UPS and USPS websites using the 'furthest' zip code from you (10001 new york) (90620 California) will work.
Then, use 'Flat Rate' Shipping (no, it's NOT USPS Flat Rate- it's eBay Flat rate-meaning YOU input the shipping amount, NOT Calculated)
