I’m trying to list a large CD collection, about 800 discs. The CDs weigh 185 pounds, which would cost about $130 to ship in the US by Media Mail. As USPS only accepts a maximum of 70-lb packages, I’d need to ship the CDs in three separate boxes.
But when I tried to list this with a shipping rate of $130, eBay says the maximum I can charge for this category is $25.
Is there a workaround to this other than offering free shipping?

The eBay shipping calculator can't do multiple boxes. Set up calculated shipping for one of the actual boxes that you will be shipping. Not for one imaginary gigantic box. Then if you have 7 more boxes that will each cost $16 to ship, enter a handling fee of $16 x 8=$112.
It's also reasonable to also offer free shipping, since Media Mail postage isn't zoned.

The $25 limit applies only if you set up flat rate shipping, so the workaround is to set up calculated shipping. Set up the shipping calculator to calculate the price for one box, then add the rest of the $130 as a handling fee.
I strongly recommend that you ship in boxes that weigh no more than 25 or 30 pounds. Anything heavier than that needs a reinforced special box and is more subject to dropping and other types of damage. The way the price of MM is set up, each additional box will add only $2.33 to your total shipping cost.

Thanks for your reply. Maybe I’m not understanding. When I enter one box dimensions and weight—54x36x7, 185 pounds—eBay says, “No shipping service based on your entry.” Also, there is no option to enter multiple boxes for one transaction. If I were able to calculate shipping for 8 boxes, their respective measurements and weight would work within the eBay shipping calculator.
I’ll definitely take your advice on limiting boxes to 25 lbs, but at this point, unless I’m missing something, I’ll just have to offer free shipping and build that cost into the price.
