Shipping Label Adjustment

On 7/23/25 I was charged by FedEx (eBay Labels) for a shipping label adjustment (order #22-13303-73132, tracking #390988319782) in the amount of $31.00. (the original label was $23.57) The reason given was, "Irregular packaging".  The details page for the charge showed the weight of 33 lbs. was correct and the dimensions of 11"x38"x6" were correct, so what was irregular? I have shipped hundreds of these boxes of paper all over the country (Item #355023031815) without being charged for "irregular packaging".  I even asked the FedEx shipping clerk if there was anything irregular about these boxes, (I drop them off regularly) and of course, they said, "no".  I contacted eBay by phone on 7/23 at 8:50AM and spoke to "Braze".  I told him about it and that I had photos showing the box with a measuring tape for each dimension and the weight on the scale.  He said they didn't need this because eBay had "a new tool" for getting this resoved immediately.  I should see a credit in 7 to 14 days (so much for immediate).  Well, it has been 21 days and no credit.  I prefer not to call again.  I've had unjustified charges like this in the past on other shipments (never got a refund) and the eBay representative said that they had already given me a "courtesy" refund in the past on one of these charges and couldn't do so again.  Has anyone else had eBay say that to you?  A courtesy refund would be like you accidently overdrafting your checking account (you're fault) and the bank removing the overdraft fee as a one time courtesy for being a longtime loyal customer.  These FedEx charges are not legitimate and I am OWED a refund for their error.  Thank you for letting me vent a little.

Shipping Label Adjustment

Yes it’s common complaint around here. That’s a carrier charge. If EBay said there should be a credit you either should wait another week then ask again or do nothing and accept the decision. It’s a tricky situation especially being a carrier charge.

Shipping Label Adjustment

Bringing up the fact that it is a carrier charge reminds me of another facet to this.  I think eBay has sort of hid behind the idea that they aren't really responsible to refund these overcharges since it is Fedex, not them, that is responsible.  After all, eBay is just offering me a convenient way to buy FedEx labels, but not selling them themselves.  The problem with that is eBay is in fact acting as a reseller/distributor of FedEx labels, in that the label purchase is going through eBay's FedEx account and they are making a profit on each label I buy by means of the eBay fees for, not just the sales price of an item, but also the shipping and sales tax.  Even when an item has "free shipping", the shipping is just built into the price, so eBay is still making money on the shipping.  It is no different than any other retailer who buys a product wholesale and adds a markup to sell it retail.  If I have a problem with the product within a week to 30 days, usually, I can bring it back to the retailer to make it right.  The retailer may then have to deal with the wholesaler or manufacturer to compensate them.  Ebay is not somehow not responsible for problems with the labels they sell on their site.  I am buying the label through eBay, using their FedEx account.  I am not buying them directly from FedEx and can't even contact FedEx about a problem regarding an eBay label, because they require the account number of the FedEx account owner (eBay), which I cannot obtain.  Ebay is making money on this label "product" and it is their responsibility to compensate the buyer when there is a provable problem with the product (an unjustified adjustment charge).  Ebay can then do whatever they need to do to collect from their supplier (FedEx).  Hopefully, I'm making sense here.

"I think eBay has sort of hid behind the idea that they aren't really responsible to refund these overcharges since it is Fedex, not them, that is responsible."

Did you read the terms before you submitted listing? As the seller you are responsible not Ebay.

"I am buying the label through eBay, using their FedEx account. "

You are using Ebay service to purchase a FedEx label at a discounted rate in order to ship your item. You are responsible for any added charges on the item you are shipping. You are responsible to know exactly what the shipping charges are before listing your item as well as measurements, and weight.

"Ebay is making money on this label "product" and it is their responsibility to compensate the buyer when there is a provable problem with the product (an unjustified adjustment charge). "

Read the terms.

I'm not sure you understand my complaint. (look at my original post) Yes, you are right.  I am "responsible to know exactly what the shipping charges are before listing my item as well as measurements, and weight."  That's the point.  I did know what the shipping charges were and had the correct measurements and weight.  I was charged an extra amount days later for no legitimate reason.  I have photo proof and a record of shipping hundreds of these.  Only eBay can get that corrected, because it's their account, not mine.  I can't even contact Fedex about it, so it's not right that I'm supposed to just live with it.  This has happened multiple times.
