I am selling an item and will select that the buyer pays shipping (usps priority mail). Once it sells I print the shipping label and take the package to the post office. My question is, if I want to insure the package, will the post office allow me to do that separate from the shipping label?

You can add insurance when you make the label. You have to insure it for the full amount if the declared value is more than $50. If you schedule a pickup you don't have to take it to the PO.

IWith priority $50 insurance is included. It looks like you are a new seller so you should be careful listing really expensive items. I have shipped hundreds of items and paid insurance on a few) but have never had one get lost or damaged. Some say the PO will deny claims anyhow. Hope this helps.

I've sold a few things but they were low value items. This particular item is around $200. I guess I will ask at the PO before moving forward. Thanks for the replies.

If you want to insure the package for more than the amount that is automatically included with your Priority Mail postage, you should purchase that as part of the process of purchasing your shipping label from eBay.
