Shipping Charges

I underestimated shipping charges, the customer has paid the invoice. What are my options? Thank you

Your only option is to ship the item, then figure out what went wrong so you don't repeat the experience.

@jaykatie

If it was your mistake, you make up the difference and ship it.

Have a great day.

That's happened to me a few times and all you can do is try to be more accurate in your shipping quotes so it doesn't happen again.  If you list more than about 10 items at a time I'd recommend investing in a good postal scale, one that goes up to 30 lbs should be fine for most sellers.  I have kind of a routine that I go through when creating a listing.  After taking the photos, I check which kind of box, bag or envelope I might need for shipping, then I weigh the item and make a note of it.  Since I use mostly the free flat rate boxes provided by USPS I keep a chart of how much those things weigh.  The extra ounce or two from the shipping box and any bubble wrap etc can be enough to bump the item up enough to change the shipping cost.  Remember that you can always refund excess shipping charges to the buyer but you can't bill them if you come up short.

@jaykatie Sometimes our errors cost us a bit, but the important factor is we learn from them. This will never happen to you again. You cannot charge an additional penny over what the listing stated, and buyer has paid, period. Now you can work to make sure this never happens again, and all will be fine. Best of luck to you....

Ship the item as cheerfully as you can.

I woud say your options are to live and learn

I think many sellers do not realize that you need to jack up shipping to come out even

if priority shipping is costing you $8.40 then you need to charge $10

when I sell to Los Angeles I am paying 16% in fees at a minimum

watch  fees are already at 15% + the taxes and it comes out to about 16 %

I try to sell items with a consistent weight

I always use a flat fee of $5 for 1st class shipping and most of my packages are around 6-7 ounces

if you are using the calculator it needs to be set up perfectly

good luck with more shipping...as they say  "it all comes out in the wash"
