Shipping Calculator not working right

My shipping calculator goes on the blink every now and then. Will not let me use 1rst Class with 13 to 15.9 ounces and Media Mail will not work as well. Have contacted eBay on this matter several times with no results. They need to figure this out. Frustrating. Buyers always look at the shipping. The cheaper you can send an item the more sales that you have.

You should double check that you have selected "Package/thick envelope" in the shipping calculator's menu for package type.  If you (or the eBay gremlins) have selected letter or Large envelope, then those services won't be available.

First class packages are up to and including 13 ounces and not a bit more, see below.  My guess on the Media Mail is that only certain categories allow you to list using Media Mail as a shipping option.  For example, you can't list a bowling ball for sale and try to use Media Mail.  I once bought a large item from a US based company that had it listed using Media Mail.  I knew that wasn't going to happen but I also knew that it wouldn't be my problem, if the postage was purchased through eBay by the seller it would have been flagged by  the USPS and the extra charge would have been applied retroactively to the seller's account(which I ultimately know is what happened), if the seller tried to take it to the post office they never would have acepted it as Media Mail.  Either way, the fact that I underpaid for shipping was a classic case of "too bad, too sad" for the seller.

From the USPS

Weight, Size, & Shape Requirements

Maximum weight for First-Class Mail letters is 3.5 oz; for large First-Class Mail envelopes and parcels, the maximum weight is 13 oz. All postcards and envelopes (or flats) must be rectangular, otherwise an additional charge may apply.

That is correct if paying for postage at the post office counter.

However, for online postage, the limit is 15.99 ounces.  Since the shipping costs the same from 13 oz to 15.99 ounces, when creating the listing, you can specify 13 ounces and change that to 15.99 when printing the label.

I've used some of the methods posted here, but I've had times when even those didn't work.

As a last-ditch effort (if you still don't have good results), enter 1#... don't fool with ounces. The calculator will show 1 lb., 1 oz. when you hit 'Update'. Go back and remove the extra 1 oz., hit 'Update' again, and it'll stick at 1#.

When you push 'Purchase Label' it prints  15.9 oz.

Don't ask me why......... but it's a workaround I've used.
