Shipped wrong item, no response from buyer after 2 weeks. Is there a time limit?

I accidenatally got 2 labels mixed up (my first time in 17 years) and sent a guitar body (nearly indentical packages) to the wrong addresses. Both were delivered on June 30.   On July 3rd one buyer notified me that I had shipped him the wrong item. I then realized my mistake and immidiatley sent message to the other buyer. I never heard from him and sent a second message after a couple days.  Still nothing so after a few days I remembered  the buyers email address would be in my Paypal records so I emailed him. Still nothing. I did some research and was directed to the Ebay buyer lookup under Advanced Search. So I got his phone number but he did not answer, but did say his name before the answering system kicked in. I left a message but never heard back. So then I thought to look on Facebook, I found him and left message via  fb messenger, still nothing. So it has been 2 weeks now and I just assumune he is dodging me. Both  buyers have a lot of seller feedback  so I thought they would be willing to work it out. The first guy has been great and willing to give the other guy plenty of time, but I am going to refund him soon. These were  used bodies that I only had one each of btw. So I guess my question is, how long does a buyer have to respond or leave me negative feedback in this situation? He actually paid more for the item he was supposed to receive so I don't get why he would not respond. I am okay with him keeping it and refunding the other guy. I have went beyond what most would do to try and contact him.

Anyone  have knowledge about this situation? Thanks for reading.

I suppose you could partial refund the one guy for the overpayment and there would be a record of that along with you sending another message on Pay Pal explicitly stating you are giving him this money back for this error. If he opens a case on Ebay, they will be able to see that you made the situation somewhat right even though he got the wrong item. If he fianlly gets back to you and does not want the item you could tell him to send it back for the remaining balance. Now, the other buyer would have to send back the wrong item as well for a refund then you send the right item. All this could take some time and keep messaging the other buyer with the progress of getting the other back.

Both buyers could open a charge back on Pay Pal for the items if you do not do the refunds yourself. I am assuming you are actively in contact with the buyer that is cooperating with you and he will be no trouble. The other one, you just will not know until they contact you. If they do nothing to contact you just do a partial refund for the monetary difference in the product. Wait then and see if they respond.

Yes I update the cooperative buyer every 2 - 3 days and he is fine. He is a touring bass played and not in a big hurry. I will probably do as you both suggested and partially refund fund the buyer, it was only $5 difference I think. Worst thing is I will be paying for shipping 3 time for each item if the both send them back to me. The cooperative guy was willing to foward the package to the intended address and was hoping the other would be just as willing, seeing as he does a lot of selling on ebay, but i geuss not.  Thanks all.

I would not badger the buyer that's not going to increase your chances for positive feedback. If the buyer wants a refund, he'll tell you.
