ShipCover Practical?

After I failed to get compensated from the domestic claim process, I started to add additional ShipCover to my fragile package (normally $1.70 for $100 under). It has been a couple of months, and there is no incident yet for me to prove its worthiness. Anyone here been successful from this additional insurance? (BTW, all my precious claims ended with "Fail to present the item to usps". All broken items were in the hands of customers, and there was no way to trouble them to do so, so I guess all so-called insured from Priority or Ground are jokes.)

TIA.

ShipCover Practical?

Never had any problems getting paid with ShipCover insurance.   ShipCover requires is that you purchase USPS label on EBAY website.   If is very simple to get payment and I have gotten payment many times (no questions asked).  Important thing is for your customer to "open case" (stating item damaged or missing).  That proves your claim.

Filing a ShipCover claim

We've partnered with Parcel Insurance Plan (PIP) to process ShipCover insurance claims. Here's how to file your claim:

  1. Go to Shipping labels
  2. Find the shipping label for the item and select Create claim under More actions.
  3. Fill out the claim form.

You'll receive an email confirmation about your claim, including the policy number, claim amount, and claim number.

With ShipCover claims, keep in mind:

  • You'll need to wait at least 7 days after the date the transaction ends to file a claim for a damaged item.
  • You'll need to wait at least 30 days after the estimated delivery date to file a claim for a lost item.
  • If you shipped multiple items but only one arrived damaged, you may only file a claim for that one item.

ShipCover Practical?

How many items have you insured?

How many claims have you made?

What is the average price of a claim/refund?

Figure out how much you are spending versus how much you lose and determine if it is worth it to buy insurance.

I have had excellent success with USPS paying claims for lost items, but have not filed damaged claims.

It might be a matter of how you are packing/shipping that is causing the issue.  It might be worth spending the $1.70 in double boxes or extra padding to save on damage claims.

@bluewhistlecreations ,

Tia,

How is it a joke. If the USPS didn’t request to see the broken item there would be many fraudulent claims. There’s already enough people defrauding the government as it is.

Maybe instead of spending the money on insurance you should invest it better shipping supplies.

Most shipping insurance is not going to pay out easily if ever when items are received damaged, as it's easy for them to claim it was packaged insufficiently, with the evidence being that it was damaged.

We put insurance on expensive packages, in case they get lost (I don't remember what value we've started it at, but over $100). But we don't count on it paying out if they're damaged. Better to just keep cookie-jar insurance for yourself and just cover any losses of that type on your own.

I only had one lost case, and it is not a big money, and eBay compensate it very quick. So my feeling is, they do take responsibility on the lost cases, but for damaged ones, as theteamsetguy mentioned, they do raise the bar to make the claim even harder.

I do try my best to pack my fragile items well, but it is not total confident when talk about large and fragile ones. I did use floating box method in a few cases. Things happens and I think I got PTSD from two failed claims. I do remember someone mentioned in other posts she has been successful by adding additional insurance.  And I do not recall the details. So I ask. Thank you all.

Thought #1)  If it was damaged, it wasn't packaged properly.

Thought #2)  Companies would not offer insurance unless it made them money. If it makes them money, it loses you money.

Yes.  I had a laptop damaged by USPS a few months ago, and ShipCover paid out the claim in a reasonable time frame without too much trouble.

Shipcover is more likely to pay than USPS, UPS or FEDEX for the typical Ebay seller's damaged shipments.

I know how to bulletproof my shipments. It is far too much work for me to ship fragile items when there is a world of non-fragile items waiting to be sold.

Depends on what it is. Are you adding it to everything, or just selected higher ticket items? I looked over your listings. Majority are in the $40-$50 and below range. No, additional insurance is not practical. Most of that stuff is just throw away stuff as it is. Wouldn't even be worth filing a claim on. Just refund the Buyer over the damage and go on.

Remember, you're only out what you have in it, not what it sold for. Like that 70's Tobacco Woman's Belt you have for $50. Where'd you find that? At the Bins for .50 cents? If that Belt gets damaged, send the Buyer back their $50, go find another .50 cent belt to sell for $50. It's not worth hassle filing a $50 claim for a .50 cent belt.

I've bought ShipCover once since I've been back. That 1st Edition I Am Legend I sold for $550. It was $8 something to insure it up to the Selling Price. That was something I would have fought to get reimbursed IF anything had happened to that book. But everything else I have sold, currently listed, No, it's not practical to pay for extra insurance. The crap just aint worth it.
