Is it a good idea to make the Ship From address the address of your local post office? Why or why not? Oh and I don't have a P.O. box there either, if that changes anything.

Since USPs isn't asking for a full address, I'd want to get some citation from eBay or stamps.com regarding why they think a full address is required. As I mentioned above, there's just no logic behind it.
I didn't say there was, and suggested using "General Delivery" just to keep the form happy.
I think the place to ask about this requirement is not eBay or Stamps.com, but the USPS themselves. They may have higher requirements for third-party vendors than they do for themselves. The address provided with the Ship From ZIP probably goes into their intranet database record for the package.

Using a Post Office box is not the same as simply putting the address of the Post office on the label.
A PO box is an actual address.

back in the old days I used to take checks and so forth and was using post office shipping.I used to want to skip my return addresss or just use the address, after the anthrax problem the name and return address started to be looked at with greater scrutiny. If I did not have a return afddress sticker I hated scribbling it on there.
fellow at the post office told me in no uncertain terms that a name and full address are required for a return address.Post office boxes are fine but the USPS wants to know all the time who is shipping.
I think people tend to forget about the high tech bio scanners that are used to detect anthrax and so forth
