So I sold a $300 package (uninsured) and dropped it off at a Office Depot after printing/attaching the USPS shipping label. But it's tracking never went past the initial "tracking number created". I called USPS multiple times and talked with many human agents about and opened up many cases to get this resolved but in the end USPS couldn't do much of anything and now I have to refund my buyer more than what I received. I'm guessing there isn't anything I can do to make USPS pay for the refund since this package wasn't insured.

There's nothing you can do for two reasons, 1. It wasn't insured and 2. Since there was no acceptance scan you have no proof that it was received by the post office.

Have you talked to Office Depot?

I called them many times and they always just say all the packages were send out and there's nothing in the USPS bin.

Even if it were insured, if there was no scan indicating that USPS had ever received it, they would not pay out. There needs to be proof that the package was in USPS' possession at some point for them to pay anything for it.

You rolled the dice on not paying extra for insurance. It's really simple and is that way with any carrier, not just the USPS.

Your situation is even worse than you think.
If USPS scans the package and then loses it, when buyer opens a case, ebay will put the case on hold for a few weeks because there are delays in the postal system and it will show up eventually.
If USPS never scanned the package, you have to give a refund 3 days after they open case because there is no proof that you shipped it. In this case, it is sort of like you lost the package, not office depot or USPS.
Only hope is that it shows up at some sort facility very soon. I've had packages compeltely dissapear from USPS boxes like this before. I've never had a package completely dissapear that was scanned by USPS.

You should take it up with Office Depot. You should have kept your OD receipt. They are the real ones at fault here. I personally would never do any business with OD, Dollar General, or any other third-party mailer whether the sender or receiver. A FedEx package worth thousands of dollars was coming to me and got misplaced for weeks between two Dollar Generals. They finally found it after I called the local PD which showed up on their doorstep to begin an employee theft report. In the end, the tracking showed it at one Dollar General when in fact it was at another nearby DG. Never again.

OD MUST have scans. Call your local PD to initiate an employee theft report at OD. Hope you kept your receipts. If not go to your local Sporting Goods store to buy a set of canoe paddles cause you will be up the creek without them.

That's the trouble with those drop off places. It might still be there so do call them.

I never got a receipt. I printed out a shipping label made by ebay, taped that to the package, and just gave it to them.

I called them many times but they always say it isn't there. I even went there to see. But I should've looked more thoroughly (like in the corners) when I was there. It's been a month so I don't know.
