Semi-scam

Hello Ebay community,

On the 12th of March 2016, I bought a League of Legends account after a quick discussion.

Before about a month I instantly lost access to that account and after some digging I understood that the seller I bought the account from had gotten it back.  The story is really long. And of course I have proof that I no longer have access to the account. I contacted the game company but they denied helping me and stuff so I searched for similar cases here.

I found old, similar cases where the people were denied help because of Ebay's terms that player accounts are not ok to sell, but then I checked, and I saw the terms were, I guess, updated. So that gave me a bit of hope.

I tried contacting support and working through the return item option but it's not finding the purchase, maybe because it was long ago.

So since I'm not getting the account back, and the seller scammed me, I'm hoping to get some help on at least having a refund or something.

I have screenshots of me and the seller's conversations, my paypal payment, my ebay purchase, and proof that, that is the exact seller.

I won't post any sensitive info here but if anyone is willing to help me with the topic, please contact me on ebay messages or the email hooked up with this account and I will be sharing the whole story.

Best Regards and thanks in advance.

why are you asking these people instead of trying paypal ? they are not paypal and who know sif they are correct? why would you allow these people's responses to limit your efforts to get back money someone stole from you?

@newleaflady why should OP call paypal? We are all very experienced long-time ebay members who have read ebay & paypal polices. I guess you are unware of what the ebay community is......We know for absolute certain that there is no reason for OP to "try paypal". This purchase occured 180 days ago. The OP had a MAXIMUM of 180 days to file a dispute with paypal. So what is there for OP to ask paypal?

Re: Semi-scam

let them find out what paypal has to say, don't discourage people from calling for themselves. you are not the final authority at all. who knows, maybe something would extend that time period.

Again, WHY would you try to keep someone from talking to paypal?people need to find out for themselves. As not all the cards are on the table.

Re: Semi-scam

you could check your state statutes to see what thier time limits are on filing a claim against someone who has defrauded you. then try small claims court if you can.

Re: Semi-scam

This is from PayPal's buyer protection:

To be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Your payment must be for an eligible item and made from your PayPal Account (see Section 7.3 for further details on item eligibility)
  • Open a Dispute within 180 Days of the date you sent the payment – then follow the online dispute resolution process described below under "Dispute Resolution"
  • You must respond to PayPal’s request for documentation and other information in a timely manner
  • Have an Account in good standing
  • You have not received a recovery related to such purchase from another source

Re: Semi-scam

Thank you for the encouragement but since account selling or buying is against the company of the game I can really do nothing about it after the deadline even though it can be extended. Only thing I can do is show that it's been sold and have the account banned so the person who stole it cannot use it either but that would be a d**k move honestly.

Re: Semi-scam

Since I gave up on getting money/ the account back, I just wrote in forums to warn players who decide to buy an account and the risks that come with it.

Have a good night everyone.

Re: Semi-scam

you realize that is a separate issue, buying an account is against company policy but thievery and fraud in a buyer-seller transaction is against the law. Those are two separate issues that can be dealt with separately.

Re: Semi-scam

Yes I do but I don't think PayPal can really help me, not sure about Ebay or the credit card company. Sure I'll try, I don't mind getting my money back since the account is in the seller's hands again. But it's been a year and 7 months since the purchase so I'm not really positive that it will work out. Anyway, have a good one.

You have 180 days from purchase to file with Paypal, most credit cards are the same way. There are a few that have longer deadlines, but not many.

As for calling Paypal, its a waste of time.

@newleaflady Yet another waste of time. The OP would have to go to the sellers location in order to file the case. Spending hundreds to a thousands to recover a few bucks makes no sense.

There is again, no reason to call paypal and "see what they say", when you can simply read the paypal user agreement, they will text him exact what the UA says--180 days to file a claim. OP has no recourse through paypal.

Re: Semi-scam

I was responding to the person that was on his/her "high horse" and not you.  I do try to take a "kinder" response as I am a true believer of "never kicking a person when they are down, at least I try.

I just thought the response was a bit harsh towards you, that's all.  To be honest, I have no idea what the LOL accounts are that were mentioned.

Re: Semi-scam

they might not have to go to the seller's location to file a small claims case! Are you now a  legal expert, do you know all 50 states laws about  small claims?  And why always trying to thwart  the possibility of recovering his stolen money?  some people do recover or win a case if they try everything that's available. these are only suggestions, you never know until you try, or look into it properly.

Re: Semi-scam

Nah really I'm not gonna file anything for 130 bucks and I'm definitely not travelling half of Europe. Its ok, it's kinda my fault anyway. Thank you all for the help.
