I scheduled a USPS pickup last Friday for the next day (Saturday, 11-3-2018) for two items that I sold, one being shipped via First Class package and the other via USPS Ground. My problem is that neither were initially scanned but I did receive a confirmation email saying that the pickup was completed and while one showed up in the tracking as being accepted by the local origin facility on November 4th, the other one still shows no tracking information whatsoever at all and I'm not sure what to do. Today the buyer messaged me asked when I'm going to ship it and I had to explain to them that I already did but that I'm having issues with the post office. This is part of an ongoing trend here, as most of my packages ARE NOT scanned when they are picked up and I've brought it up to my local post office twice now and they said that they would alert my mail person who is assigned to my route but nothing has changed except for the fact that I now have a sold item that cannot be accounted for. I tried to file a missing item report on the USPS website but it says that it falls outside of their parameters so I am at a total loss right now.
So has anyone here ever had a problem like this or do you at least have an idea of what I can do? This is really frustrating.

That's really strange ... its been a while but I have been through 3 Bulk Mailing Centers and know how they operate ... to have a package go all the way through the system and not get a scan until delivery is really strange. I would almost suspect the API software between USPS and eBay as a potential problem.

I have had that happen maybe two/three times in 9 years. Usually around Christmas Holiday season. I went to the PO to get a intra USPS tracking report to see what was up the buyer was concerned & their report showed the same info as eBay. Maybe it was due to all the added temporary warehouse & part time personal USPS has to handle the larger volumes than normal or an extraterrestrial event - "there is always something".
Like you I have been thru USPS Sort Centers in the Atlanta area & all usually goes fine but every now and thing things came "mess up" due to human factors, machine issues & unexplainable reasons. You know like that spelling rule "i" before "e'"except after "c". At least that is what I was taught back in the days of rotary dial phones with party lines - I'm certain this rule has been refined today like the new math.

@johnrj1226 It has not happened to us but we've seen some pretty strange and 'round about tracking routes on packages which could be a s imple as a miss-sort or as you mentioned, an equipment error, like the divert gate for zone 2 sticks and the package winds up in zone 8 then has to be re-routed back to zone 2 at the next sorting center via the automation. Now, as to rotory dial phones ... as kids we loved working the dial without picking up the hand set but then what kid didn't love those things right?!? And yes, I clearly remember the i before e except after c spelling rule ...

I learned a few years back from Oct to March I take my items down to the Post office and have them scanned. I lost at least four packages a year during that time due to no scans. And no scan receipt no help Period. I tried for years to no avail to get them to scan at pick up but like the post master told me. The carriers are always changing. Espically during the holidays. It is a huge hassel to have to go to the P.O. Daily but you do what you gotta do.
Good Luck.

Check out the routing of this Priority mail shipment - item was paid for late Nov 2, dropped it off at the PO on Sat. 11/3 - then the Grand Tour of the MidWest began. eBay estimated the delivery date to be Nov 10 (my handling time is 1 day) at the time of label purchase. Interesting me thinks. After that journey the item was 2 delivered 2 days earlier than estiamted.
While this item was in Detroit area at one time it posted the item went thru a facility in Allen Park, MI -near Detroit - I used to live very near Allen Park, Taylor MI. But for some reason USPS dropped it from the routing I can see- teh intra USPS track would probably show it there.
Anyway all is well that ends well.

That's pretty much what happened. The tracking was finally updated and it said it was out for delivery so I might have gotten dinged for a late shipment but at least I know that it didn't disappear altogether. Thanks for your input, everyone! I really appreciate it!

I've had that happen before as well. Several weeks ago they left without taking my packages and then had the audacity to confirm that they'd been picked up. I received a confirmation email saying that my scheduled pick-up had been completed but when I came home I noticed that they were right on the porch where I left them. I couldn't believe it.
