Scam? Received wrong item and seller won't give me a new tracking number.

So when I received my item it was incorrect. Contacted seller and they said it was on the way. When asked for the tracking number they said that they can't give that to me over our conversation but only through my personal email. Sounds fishy to me so I opened a refund from them and they insist that they have shipped it but refused to give me a tracking number. I have to wait one more day before I can contact eBay about this. Just curious if the seller can't actually give me the tracking number?

He’s not required to give the tracking number or even ship with tracking but his behavior is extremely fishy. Ask eBay to step in tomorrow and get your money back. No sense in playing games with this seller.....

Already have talked to eBay about it, I don't trust the seller based on conversation with them. Thank you for the information.

Afraid I'm not quite understanding your issue with the tracking number.  You say you received your item so the tracking would show it was delivered.  If the item isn't as described request a return using the item not as describe reason and the seller has to pay the return shipping.  If the seller is in the US they should send you a shipping label if you are in this country as well.

So the package that I had a tracking number for was the incorrect item. Told the seller of there mistake and they apparently had already sent out the correct package. When I read that I asked for a new tracking number and was told they could only give it to me through my personal email.

As a Seller I would have responded the same way.  The 'Message' bots are crazy and will suspend a Seller for including certain things in a message -- like a 'Tracking Number'!

When something was said about using your personal email what was your response?

Simply sounds like your seller is afraid that a second tracking number --

will affect the metrics by appearing that the item was shipped late.

Your seller possibly sent the wrong item intentionally.  No one will ever know that but them.

The bit about sending a replacement with no tracking is a common stalling tactic to avoid sanctions.  Stick to the dispute and have it closed in your favor, hopefully with a full refund.  If the replacement ever shows up, you can arrange to pay the seller for it.
