I just recently started selling on eBay and a buyer wanted to return a items because it was defected. But when I had it before hand there was nothing wrong with it and worked fine. The buyer never even contacted me, instead the buyer gave me a bad review and requested for a refund. I don't really know what to do because I'm still pretty new at selling on eBay and I see that eBay tends to be more on the Buyer side instead of the seller. Anyone know what to do, like I'm kind of worried that eBay is gonna just refund the money and let the buyer keep the product. By the I'm still waiting for eBay to get involved.

As a seller, you don't want Ebay to get involved.
If you want the item back before refunding, accept the return and provide return shipping.
If Ebay has to get involved, they'll probably refund the buyer from your Pay Pal account and let them keep the item, give you a defect for not handling the return and you won't get your Ebay fee's refunded.

If you wait for eBay to get involved they will refund the full purchase price, let the buyer keep the item, and give you a defect on your selling account. Your options are, approve the return, have the buyer return the item, refund when you receive the return from the buyer or refund now and let the buyer keep the item.

Go to the refund request and accept as return for refund(if you refund before return ebay will not make buyer return). If you get ebay involved your account will get a defect and you still will be refunding usually at return but sometimes without return

Was this return request opened claiming the item is "not as described"? When eBay gets involved, eBay will apply these rules:
In some instances, we may not require that an item be returned to the seller. In these situations, we refund the buyer and may seek reimbursement from the seller, for example if:
- The return request was opened because the item was "not as described"
So if the return request was for "not as described" (does not matter if it's true or not), you don't want eBay to get involved. Instead, accept the return and issue a return label before eBay can get involved. Otherwise, you won't be allowed to sell on eBay for too much longer.

No it wasn't not as described, the buyer submitted it as was defective or broken. But the product wasn't broken it was working fine when I had it in hand and even before I shipped it.

If the iPhone SE that you sold is locked (password-protected), why don't you just give the buyer the password?

That's the thing once I saw both the bad feedback and the return request I asked the buyer what the issue was because I was confused because I factory reset the phone before I shipped it. The buyer refused to explain to me what the issue was even though I was just trying to help and just kept on asking for a refund.

I have been dealing with the same troubles: BUYERS RETURNING AN ITEM FOR INVALID REASON.
eBay is getting ridiculous about siding with the buyers NO MATTER THE FACTS. As sellers, we pay all the fees and being forced to take returns and pay for return shipping despite accurate listings.
Customer service is no help: I had a problem with a buyer regarding a toner and eBay's official email response "apologized" for the trouble I had selling my dog cage.
Unbelievable.
