Returning an item

I recently bought a rug for $499 that shipped from Pakistan to the US, and paid $100 for shipping. I decided to return it, but the cheapest shipping cost (with DHL) was $274. The seller generously gave me a $50 partial refund. Now I'm reselling it on Ebay. I entered a flat shipping fee of $40 to be paid by the buyer in the US, but how does one cover  a potentially higher international shipping cost, if you don't know what it might be.? Not likely, but if someone in India buys it, how do I insure I'm not on the hook for a much higher cost to ship if I can't predict what it would be?

Thanks,

Ron

Set you selling preference to eliminate international shipping.

Or set up calculated shipping. Depending on the rug, your 40 dollar flat might flatten you.

Seriously?

Just looked at what you are charging for shipping on the 5 rugs you have listed.  You might want to rethink what you are charging.  I am no expert but those prices are not even remotely close to what it will actually cost you to mail them.  First of all they will be charged dimensional rate because their size exceeds 1 cubic foot.  Before you are seriously surprised, take a moment to weigh and measure each one and figure out how you will package them.  Go to the shipping calculator and pretend you are mailing them to a State not close to where you live.  You do not want to just pull a price out of the air on items that are heavy and oversized.  You will end up giving your entire profit to the USPS.  If you are thinking Fedex or UPS those prices are still way too low.  Best of luck to you.

The whole recently bought a rug from Pakistan is a crock. No idea where the OP is going with this.

Charge calculated shipping, not flat rate. What does this have to do with "returning an item"? Maybe I'm missing something

It will cost more than $40 to ship to a buyer in your own town because of the size and weight of those rugs.

Remove any shipping options from your listings, list with local pickup only.   The shipping is going to cost  more than  the used rugs are worth.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

We already knew from his other post he was purchasing a few rugs.

Presumably to resell.

My take is he wanted to return a rug he purchased  because he didn't  like it.  And he wants to had no idea how expensive International shipping from this end is so he wants to know how to charge for International shipping. It appears he doesn't know that the shipping cost he has is for US only.  Those rugs fold up and can fit in a 12x12x12 box. Those sizes don't weigh much. Domestic shipping looks right.

Why aren't you simply going to the usps website and inputting a couple countries, with the size/weight and you can see on your own 'about' what it would cost??

Also note- "no returns" does NOT mean 'no refunds'.
