Hi there, I'm a frequent Ebay buyer and I now have to return an item. I haven't returned anything in a very long time so I thought I would just file the request and ship it on my own. I'm now shown an option where I have to use Ebay's return where the shipping amount seem a bit high. Twice, actually, as the usual USPS Media Mail charge.
It seems like I have to use their label for the return but I'm wondering if this is just something Ebay makes their money on. I have the address of the person I need to send to but why can't I just go to my post office and get my own label and save a few bucks? Am I required to use theirs and pay more? What happens if I don't use their label but send the item back with my own tracking number?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks! When I started the return, the Ebay system gave me a message saying a tracking number is ready and here's the charge and it's all quick and easy.

Hi @gatormoose, why will you be coming back ... is it because you wanted to upload your own return tracking number but that's not an option anymore? Or the "Mark as shipped" option is there, but you can't type in anything.

I didn't want to pay twice as much for shipping. Ebay gave me the cost they think it'll be to ship it back and I don't want to pay that.
