Hello everyone. I'm having a tough go at it as a new eBay seller. Firstly, I had no idea the amount of scamming people do on eBay or any other selling platform for that matter nor was I prepared for it.
My latest return
A 1984 Suzuki Mini Chord instrument with AC adapter purchase new and give it to me by my parents on my 8th birthday in 1985. I played it that year maybe two or three times before getting bored with it. We've kept it stored in its original box for the last 34 or so years. Only once has it been played and that was two weeks ago after my wife and I decided we'd sell it and use the money to help with expenses with our newborn.
The thing is, the night when I decided to sell I had to go up in the attic to get it so I can open it and make sure everything checked out okay. I plugged into the wall, powered up the keyboard, and sang the song "Everything I do I do It for you" (Bryan Adams) to my wife and daughter, Amy & Terra. Other than a few flat notes on everythingmy behalf everything worked out perfectly including the keyboard itself.
My dilemma
3 days after mailing the item I receive a message in my eBay inbox from the buyer stating that he wanted a refund because half the keyboard work. The way he explained it to me half of the keys played, the other half no response.
Now I thought this is weird seeing how I just played the same but as a eBay seller I know the buyer is always right and of course agreed to the refund. However, once I got it back I noticed the buyer hadnt used a shipping box but instead opting to ship in the original manufacturer's box. Which even that would have been okay if only he hadn't used the wrong tape & wrapping around the entire box for shipping. When I tried pulling the tape off the entire writing and design on the box started peeling away with the tape ruining the original box. heartbreakingly difficult I might add, as I had kept in good shape for over 30 years.
And lastly yet more importantly, once I did get it opened I pulled it up immediately noticed a burnt smell coming from the keyboard. I plugged it in and tried to play but nothing but come on. I started to sniff the keyboard and I noticed the smell was the strongest at the back of the keyboard where the adapter plugs in.
so now the only is my box ruined from the tape but my keyboard has apparently been fried and I'm left with a broken item and out of $300 refund. Is there anything I can do and if not what advice should I take going forward to not let this happen again?
Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated thank you guys.
And I apologize for any errors in my writing especially spelling.... It's been a very busy day and I am unable to proofread. thanks guys and I look forward to reading your comments later

Sounds like the keyboard just shorted out with age?

It happens with older electronics sometimes, the boxes get thrown around and all the bouncing isn't good on them.
Some wires could have come loose and when plugged in, it shorted out.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about your loss. You may try to report the buyer for misuse of returns. Also put them on your Blocked Buyer/Bidder list.
