Return shipping label too big

I received a return shipping label from the seller to print. It's way too big and takes up 8.5x11 paper. I've tried everything to make it smaller but nothing works. I have a small biz on Etsy and print labels all the time and never had this problem. What's wrong???

Re: Return shipping label too big

I was able to downsize it using the custom scale but there's a line through the barcode. Oh well.

Re: Return shipping label too big

It's possible that the wrong settings were used to generate the shipping label. As an example, we've noticed that when the label format is set to 4"x6" the label will take up an entire sheet of 8.5"x11" paper when printed with a standard laser or inkjet printer.

Most business sellers use a thermal printer to print their labels, so when they make a label for a customer they forget to change the label format so it prints standard size on the home printers that most of their customers will try to print the label with.

If the above is indeed what has happened, the seller will need to re-create the return label for you or give you a QR code instead.

Most printer drivers have a scale-to-fit option in the print dialog that will allow you to print according to the size of your media. Or if you use photo editing software such as Photoshop, you can change the actual dimensions of the shipping label image and save and print the file.

Note that often when a label is resized with imaging editing software, the barcode will not scan properly.

Rarely if you're reducing the size of the image. Or if you're increasing the size of the image with software such as Photoshop that does interpolation well.

A quick and dirty @tree-a71 is just to go from Portrait mode, where it fills the whole page

to print in Landscape mode instead, where it's constrained to an approximately 6-inch printable height.

No manual downsizing needed.

Re: Return shipping label too big

Choose 50% of scale on the print screen.  I had the same problem and that fixed it for me. None of the other proposed solutions worked for me.

Re: Return shipping label too big

Just put the item in a bigger box.   There is a time limit to return it.

Check your print settings @deri111 . Use landscape, not portrait, and make sure the box is checked to scale to print area.

All sorted for some reason when you go to print a label in postage 4x6 is now A4 in the settings eBay are always tinkering and some how the print size has been swapped

Re: Return shipping label too big

My problem was from 2022. I don’t know if it’s still a problem now or not because I rarely use eBay.
