I bought a nice ring as an anniversary gift from an international seller in India. The seller claimed it to be “ solid 14K gold” with a natural emerald and diamonds. I got the ring checked out by a jeweler and when they did their testing it showed it was not solid gold and was only plated and the emerald was not real. When i got home i used a strong magnet and took photos of the ring being magnetized to show proof that it is not solid gold as stated but cheep iron with a light plating and messaged the seller that I would like to return the ring for a refund as I can not give my wife this fake ring for our anniversary. I opened a return as “ item not as described “ and the seller never responded to any of my messages but accepted the return a few days later. The seller lied and selected that they provided a return label another way to me ! I never got a return label and have messaged the seller many times with no response. There is no way to get through to a live person on ebay and it just keeps telling me to take action and input tracking for the return and send it buy July 9th. The message from ebay said if that isn't the case to ask them to step in after 3 days by clicking on the more action tab but there isn’t an option for that and this is now the fourth day. Do i just send it to the address on the ebay message? Is it even the correct address? What if it is undeliverable? This seller wont respond and is obviously scamming people by selling them fake jewelry! They have alot of sales and only a few negative feedback, i would think more people would get the jewelry tested to make sure its real! Do I just eat the $20 and hope it get delivered so I can get my $200 back? I can’t believe that ebay doesn’t have customer service support anymore! Iv’e been buyer and seller on ebay for decades and haven’t had this problem with no customer support ! Will the “ ask ebay to step in ever appear in the more action tab? Will i be able to contact live support? This seller obviously knows the difficulties and probably gets away with returns this way!

Others will chime in here or will certainly correct me if I'm wrong. The MBG states that, when a buyer receives an item that's not as described, the buyer has 30 days to open an item not as described case with eBay. The seller is then required to send a prepaid return shipping label if he wants the item back, or he can refund the buyer in total and let him keep the item.
However, the sending of a prepaid return label requires that the seller be in the US in order to do that. Your purchase was apparently in India. Since he's not in the US, he can't send you that label. What he has to do is to send you the postage money, the amount it will cost you to return the item to him. As mentioned above, depending on the value of the item, many sellers will choose just to refund you in total and tell you to keep the item.

If the case has been open 4 days, there should be an option to ask Ebay to step in.

'solid 14K gold'...'natural emerald and diamonds'...for $200.00
I guess because of the low cost you bought into it.
No answer from the seller...wonder if feedback would wake the seller up...not saying you should do anything out of the ordinary of course. And you can always revise your feedback.
Sounds like you have to use your own money to return it...and add tracking on claim.
Is address correct for a return...could google the address to see what the building looks like.

I'm having a similar problem from a jewelry seller in India - they even sent me a fake return label. Can't contact eBay support (says live chat is closed, no phone number to call, return stuck in "ship by July 11" status.

I actually was able to message ebay on their Facebook account. I sent this same message i typed on here and got a customer service agent to reply and verify my account. They looked into my return problem and opened a case pausing the return for 5 days giving the seller time to get me a return label or i will get my refund on the 6th day. I would suggest going to ebays Facebook page and sending a detailed message.

Thank you. Has that been true all along or is it a recent development?

I don’t know how long it has been that way. Years, I believe. That it cannot be done is something that people repeat and repeat because that is what they have read on these boards. People will say with certainty that you can’t even register for an account on usps.com unless you have an address in the United States. It simply isn’t true – I can go today and register as if I am in Angola or even Antarctica.
