Return request - need guidance/help

I have only sold a very few things on ebay over the years and last week I sold a used watch on ebay for $100 plus shipping (when new sold for $400-500).  I received a return request from the seller stating that the item is "Doesn't work or defective" but then proceeds to state the item does work but that the hour hand and minute hand is out of alignment and because that is not in the description he wants a full refund.  He sent a picture of the face of the watch.  The hands appear to be in alignment to me.

The options I have are all very slanted to the seller, with no option to dispute or deny the return request.  Simply put I sold a used watch, not a new one and I never represented the watch as in 'like new condition'.  I suspect he has buyers remorse which is going to cost me return shipping (about $20) and has my money currently in a hold on paypal.

I contacted ebay to ask how the process works and got someone reading a script that could not explain to me what happens if I ignore the return request.  Based on what I am seeing in the current options slanting in the seller benefit, I suspect the options later don't get any better.

How does the process work if I ignore the return request?

How have you handled situations like these?

Should I just take it on the chin and move on?

did you sell it with no return (as-is) or did you sell it stipulating a return privilege?

You'd best accept the return, issue a prepaid return label, and refund within 2 days after delivery.

When a buyer isn't required to return an item

In some instances, we may not require that an item be returned to the seller. In these situations, we refund the buyer and may seek reimbursement from the seller, for example if:

- The seller chooses not to accept a return request
- The seller did not provide a return shipping label or funds for the buyer to return the item

I typed "as is" in the description specifically because it is a used watch.

I did not check the options to allow returns, "Domestic returns accepted" and "International returns accepted"

Is there no recourse for the seller at all?  They just have to eat the shipping and hope the buyer did not damage the item so they can sell it again?  This makes absolutely no sense for an item clearly listed "as is" in the description.

When you sell a  used item it is to be fully operational and functional and any imperfections are to be  so described - in words & pics is the best way.

The term  "as is" applies to warranty terms.  However eBays Moneyback Guarantee trumps any condition a seller  types in there description.
