Do buyers have to see my legal name and home address on packages I ship out? How do i change that so my name doesn't appear?
Ive purchased things on ebay before and I've never known the name of the person who sent it, just the business name.

If you want to use your business name, on the Account Settings, your Account Type should be Business.
Also on the Ship From Address on Addresses, the business name is saved rather than your real name.

Do you have a business name and address? You might want to consider getting a PO Box.
What are you shipping? Are you planning to start selling?

You need a return address on your packages. You can substitute a business name or even your seller ID for the 'name'. That is what I do for mine as it also helps me keep track of the few returns that I get as I sell under several ID's

You can really put almost anything you want there. Many will say you need a name of some sort, but I often just use the address, city state and zip. Never had a problem.
Or get a PO Box so your home address isn't shown either.
One thing about using some sort of a business name is that it might catch someone's eye (a buyer who feels wronged somehow) who will decide to check to see if running a business out of a home is legal in your area. Some cities have licensing or zoning laws. Some have been known to pay bounties for tips.

If you're going to sell on ebay you need to mask your identity as much as possible. PO Box is always the best start. It's bad enough that ebay will give out your phone number when asked and regularly give youre info to ebay approved vendors. Your privacy is important to ebay, right up to the point they sell it.

Not that anyone might have a knee jerk reaction by thinking one might have something to hide, you could list your return name as:
Friendly eBay Sellers
@ Mail Stop OICU812
your address
city, state & zipper
Yes, it's pretty dopey, but I've seen it.
A post office box isn't bullet proof. A PO Box application specifically ask you to note whether you are doing business with the public. Even a false declaration on the form won't protect you from inquiry by a buyer. If they were to call the post office clerks aren't necessarily guard your intel. On the contrary, a seller is likely to say they are a customer of your public business which could result in the closure of your PO Box for false application info.

What in the heck are you talking about?
First, we (USPS) can not tell anyone who has a PO Box or even who is at a street address without a request coming through the courts.
Second, the question about if this a a business or residential PO Box is strictly so we know what NAMES are good at that location be they a business name or personal names. A lot of business's have PO Boxes for an added measure of security for items like payroll checks. I have been with the Post Office for 17 years and the ONLY reason I have ever seen for a PO Box to be closed is for non payment of the PO Box rent.

It's super easy to do. I no longer have a store...just various accounts for different categories but all use the same return address with the same account name (the one I generically call my main account for all my reselling). In your account settings/addresses there is an area for return address-here you can call yourself whatever you want...even put a PO address there and this will be what prints on your labels...simple stuff.

You have the buyers legal name and address , why would this not be a 2 way street ?

You just have to have a return address, but you can have a bussiness name or your ID as the name on your return address. I have use 3 so far this month though I have little listed right now. One is my Media ID, One used for hardware, old tools and such, and one that me and my daughter use to sell a friends pulled motorcycle and car parts.
For my new mailcarrier sub I have a 3x5 card taped to the inside of the mailbox with:
Good at This location:
My name
My daughters name
ID #1
ID #2
ID #3
ID #4
and If anything comes for Grace Ul*** that is Grandma who has passed, I will hand it off to the Executor Aunt Minnie.
