Return advice

Hello eBay community,

I am relatively new seller and sold an oven “as-is” for parts not working. Oven was photographed and I stated I didn’t know if it worked or not. Buyer purchased it and now wants a return because it’s not as described and doesn’t work. Apparently the oven was missing all of the internal heating elements which I was unaware of because I did not take the housing apart and inspect.

Item was only .99 but it was heavy and shopping was about $65.

Thoughts in how to resolve the issue?

Re: Return advice

You have to accept the return and refund.  If anything is being sold for parts it needs to broken apart and the parts shown.  It's possible the buyer took the part they wanted at your expense.   There is a likelihood the internal heating elements were there but are not there now.  I'm sure you figured that out.

Unless you want to pay to have it returned, I would just refund.

Have a great day.

Re: Return advice

I can't imagine that you'd want to pay the shipping charges to have it returned. Yours is one of the rare cases that I'd recommend a refund without a return. Good luck!

Thank you for your response. I issued the refund.

Re: Return advice

This is the disadvantage/risk of selling something that the shipping cost severely outweighs the item price. Some buyers know this flaw in the system and might take advantage.

Re: Return advice

I can't believe you paid that much for shipping! Paying/losing money to get rid of "junk" is not productive. You should try local sales... Ebay is not a place for that because you get screwed in the end.
