Response time for USPS missing mail search?

Anyone know how long it's apt to take for USPS to complete a missing mail search?

Re: Response time for USPS missing mail search?

Hi there, you have searched an incorrect tracking number please use the tracking number on the screenshots and explain what the displayed note  could mean on my parcel . I’m so frustrated and I’m unable to call the number provided from my country ( South Africa).

Re: Response time for USPS missing mail search?

Nono, the tracking message says that USPS has not yet received your package, although the "accepted" part is confusing.

There is an option to contact USPS via email on their Contact Us page. Here's the email contact form:

https://emailus.usps.com/emailUs/iq/usps/request.do?forward=emailUs

You should probably also contact the seller, as it's not clear that the package has even gotten to USPS yet. Good luck!

By the way, I suggest that you track the package on the USPS website so you get the official status from them.

https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction?tLabels=CY112702437US

That's where it says that they have not yet received your package.

You can also sign up there to get email updates from them.

Re: Response time for USPS missing mail search?

The USPS lost over fifty pounds of books. The packages were sent across country, and was pummeled at the USPS location only a few hours from my home. I was sent the labels from the boxes and a single book. The tracking information now reads "delivered" when all it refers to is that the box tops were mailed back to me. The local postmaster has told ,e that the boxes were probably compromised at the warehouse (six football fields in length), and the books were sent all over the country. They may end up in Atlanta, and unless I can report EXACTLY what was contained (down to the ISBN numbers [even though the books were vintage]), there's probably no chance whatsoever of recovering anything at this time. I paid the USPS to deliver my packages, and they didn't, and since I didn't purhcase insurance, or had a EXACT list of what was contained, I'm out over five hundred dollars in books!

Re: Response time for USPS missing mail search?

  • No Christmas  does not suck.  It is people that are doing  not  doing their job that  screw things up.  USPS hires a lot of temporaries & too many  care very little about doing the job right the first time.  We  had carriers, temps or subs or whatever, stop at  our drive way and honk their horn wanting us to  come out & pick up  a Priority Mail shipment.  Distance from our  open  garage door to the end of the drive way 65 feet.   Plus the  are cramming stuff inside the mail box so tight  you  can hardly get it out (a priority mail shipment in one of those white poly bags (90 day supply of medicine) and had a picture delivered with the envelope in  large printed letters stating DO NOT BEND on both side- guess that was a challenge to the carrier. There are reasons why some people can only hold a temp job.

Re: Response time for USPS missing mail search?

I have found all of my "lost packages" except one - all that is needed is
1. the tracking number
2. Polite attitude and
3. multiple trips to the post office.
Show up to the last zip code scan USPS Store / Location at open. First thing in Morning. Give them the tracking number let them stumble around and IF THEY SAY "GIVE ME YOUR PHONE NUMBER IT'LL TURN UP"; just come back every other day for two weeks. You will find it. You will eventually reach a motivated worker who will use their system (much much different than what you see online tracking info) and then call drivers and find it.

so you're saying if last scan is in another state, you're saying to drive to another state????

Download a VPN and use an internet call. Then it'll register as calling from the states.

Re: Response time for USPS missing mail search?

I have filed my 2nd 'missing package' report in the last 6 weeks with the post office. One was for an Amazon order and the current 'missing package' is from ordering a used item off of EBay. I am so disgusted with my local post office. We have a person who replaced a long time carrier about a year ago . She does not care about her job at all, has left my mail just sitting in my driveway after rolling up and blocking the slot of my locking mailbox with a piece of junk mail. My driveway/mailbox is right on the sidewalk so people walking by will see and grab anything left there. There is no reasonable care taken whatsoever and that is what is most irritating. My tracking shows the package was 'left in/at mailbox' at 5:19 p.m. Well, I was home by 6:30, there was nothing there. I have a screened in porch that would protect a package from view and also from walk-by stealing, but the carrier can't be bothered to leave it on the porch. She also can't be bothered to leave me a yellow slip to go pick it up at the post office. That would be inconvenient but it is preferable to having to file reports trying to find missing packages. I now feel bad taking EBay up on their guarantee because I don't think this has anything to do with anything the seller did wrong, it is the lazy local USPS service. It is such a hassle to file these reports and try and find this stuff supposedly delivered when all it would take would be some tiny bit of reasonable care on the part of the carrier to rub two brain cells together and deliver the box to the porch, back to the post office or *gasp* even knock on my door to hand it to me. Would she want her box left on the sidewalk outside of her house? I doubt it.

Re: Response time for USPS missing mail search?

Once, I bought something off ebay (in Feb 2005) and it arrived a year later (in Feb 2006). I didn't make an inquiry at the time - it was a fairly cheap item and I wrote it off. So strange it came exactly a year later.

Re: Response time for USPS missing mail search?

I had a similar experience. About 3 to 4 weeks after submitting the search I got that email about hoping it will still turn up. Meanwhile it had finally made it back to me the week before.

I put the entire thing into a new padded rate envelope and put it in the mail. The buyer loved it! Turns out the address was her mistake but I paid for reshipping anyway because I tend to have a lot of repeat customers.
