Reoccuring USPS Nightmares....

So it looks like its Christmas all over again.  I realize there is terrible weather around the country right now...I currently have about 25 packages that are literally 1-2 days past the delivery dates (with no movement in the past 3 days) and 4 customers have put in for INR cases.  I saw an email about Ebay protecting us here, but I'm not optimistic as they said they would "protect" us during Christmas.

I know USPS is doing their best and the storms are awful...I guess I'm just venting as I prepare for another round of refunds with packages delivered after I refund and customers not answering emails to pay me after they receive the item.  Sigh.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Cheers.

Reoccuring USPS Nightmares....

Not having a problem, but did talk to my rural carrier today.

She said many areas have carriers making second trips do the the package overload from people purchasing through the mail rather than going to stores.

Said the local hub office is out delivering 7 days a week now.  That 7th day used to be reserved just for Priority Express.

Said the substitute carrier is being utilized extensively going to work at unassigned offices, and if desired could be working 70 hours a week.

She said they are getting mail box deliveries added to the route for people that normally did not get the rural delivery.

The most disturbing was that they will make no attempt to contact/deliver/make available for pickup,  for any item that does not have a USPS delivery address. Therefore all the "hand off from other carrier" without the correct address , and or incorrectly address items go back even when they know where/to who it should go.  I did not ask from how far up that policy was being directed.

That policy applied even to the 80 year old guy that walked to the Post Office every day to pick up the mail at his PO box .  They knew who he was, but if they got a USPS "last mile"  UPS/FedEx that was address to his street address it would go back.

Same thing applied to those items for seasonal residents in the area. They order something to be sent to their summer camp. Coming by FedEx. Great, will come right to their door.  Oops, sorry it was "Smart Post" handed off to the PO, and back it goes.

As a buyer, I made a purchase on February 12, seller shipped it on February 13, and (according to tracking), it's been sitting in a post office facility 150 miles from the seller ever since then. Estimated delivery date was February 17.

Yes, I shipped several PRIORITY MAIL packages  on 2/11 from California to the East Coast (doesn't show any movement).    After I saw packages stalled...I sent email notifying customers that USPS has extreme delays due to bad weather and flight cancellations.    Today I send another message...showing copy & paste from USPS website (USPS has more info than shown in EBAY....USPS explains "delayed delivery, package in transit").   Hopefully, that will keep my customers happy for a couple more days.

I started using Fed Ex Express 2 Day after the Dejoy Destroy USPS prior to Christmas but even now Fed Ex has issues with their Memphis Hub where most east coat packages go to first and they are even delayed due to Memphis getting hit very hard. BUYERS on here reading this, get real with this stuff and wait for goodness sakes.

28 days for one of my Priority Mail packages to go 180 miles. And that was last month into this month not Christmas time. What strokes my goat is we are paying for a service we are not getting.

Yep - anything shipped on 2/12 is stuck.  I just came here to check to see if I was the lucky one or other people have issues too.

Reoccuring USPS Nightmares....

I switched to UPS, their rates are now less costly than USPS,s rates, excluding first-class and some of their flat rate packages, and I haven't had any major delays to speak of, knot on wood. But I sell on a different site and I'm in control of my own return policy, so the INR issue isn't a prob for me, but I understand how it is here, for that's one of the reasons I no longer sell items on eBay, and I'll assume eBay wasn't/isn't really concerned about me leaving.

I wish you the best of luck with your concerns.
