A buyer bought a ($60) 'text' book - I had just bought it new and forgot to put in description that I had put my first name in pale pink highlighter on the bottom of the book - buyer messaged and said she needed the book and it was ok.
Then the buyer put her name in marker on bottom of book and now doesn't want the book and wants a refund.
What would you do?

Buyer has admitted to altering the item and not in the same condition as received.
Offer a partial refund perhaps that may settle the matter to the buyer's satisfaction.

Has the buyer opened a return request? And if so, what reason did she give for the return? It sounds like remorse so I wouldn’t offer a partial refund, that’s just stupid IMO. On a remorse return she pays shipping both ways. The book is still resellable.

Can the buyer change her mind after receipt?
Can the buyer file a SNAD, since you did forget to include you wrote your name onto the book within the listing description?
Can buyer leave you with a Neg?

Does a partial refund guarantee the buyer won't do any of those things? NO,
Does negative feedback count against a seller? NO.
Boom.

Hi Jen
Are you sure if a buyer accepts a partial refund to settle a issue, buyer can then file and win a SNAD ?
Should potential buyers review feedback received by a seller?
Is it more likely dissatisfied buyers may leave a Neg?
In your opinion what are the chances of buyer winning a SNAD opposed to
seller successfully claiming a buyer remorse return ?

If the buyer said in an ebay message that she altered the book (wrote in it) the chances of her winning are close to zero
Counsler, you are overconfident, if buyer is creative & presenting the appropriate arguments, her chances of a SNAD win in light of ebay rules & policies, is far from being close to zero. I will not instruct you since I do not wish to be in the position of providing that assistance.
