How do I change the tracking number on a return?

I received the wrong item from a seller and requested a return.  They issued a label via the return request, but that label was addressed to ship to me, so they sent me another return label through an ebay message.  When I went to mark the return as shipped, it would not allow me to manually change the tracking number, or at least I couldn't figure out how to change it manually.  I went ahead and mark it shipped hoping I would then get an option to edit the tracking number, but it doesn't appear so.  So, is there a way that I can change that tracking number?

Apparently this is a known issue and there seems to be no desire to allow a buyer to enter the correct tracking number if the one the seller provided is not correct.

On a side note, I noticed the tracking status, for the first number the seller provided, shows "accepted" and "in transit" when I view it in the return details.  There was nothing "accepted" or "in transit" associated with that tracking number, it was merely a "label created".

I don't understand why the misleading status is being displayed by ebay.  USPS just lists it as "pre shipment" with an empty status bar.

Did it look like this:This is an exploit: The seller intends to never refund you --

either never "emails" a label --

or emails a useless label.

You're stalled, have no button to click, and must call eBay any name you wish.

The seller did send me a correct label through an ebay message and I used that label to send the item back.  I manually marked it as shipped, so the second check mark is green.  Perhaps that's why it's showing accepted and in transit, but it's never going to show as delivered with that tracking number.  I called customer service first thing this morning and tried to get them to edit the tracking number for me.  They just assured me that they can use the tracking number from the other label in the message to determine if the seller gets the item back.  I have a feeling that I'll be having to call them again once the item gets back to the seller, but I'll just have to wait and see if the seller refunds me within 6 days of getting it back. It was only $20, so nothing worth getting too riled up about, I was just annoyed about not being able to add the correct tracking number.
