Looking for some advice here as this is the first time I’ve encountered this on eBay.
I purchased a fly fishing rod from a seller and upon examining it the evening I received it noticed that there was a significant scratch on the rod which was neither photographed (the original images aren’t HQ enough for close examination) or mentioned in the description—which said no scratches or marks. I immediately took a HQ image with my phone and applied for a return as this was not described in the description.
I’ve encountered this before and returned items with no issues, I purchase rods on here quite often, but the seller is alleging that the damage wasn’t there when he shipped it and must have been caused by me. The seller did package the rod well and it arrived without damage, but the damage discovered is obviously due to use and was done prior to packaging. The seller is refusing to take return of a damaged rod—the damaged rod they sent to me.
I know that my history and feedback both speak to my reputation on the site, so I assume eBay will back it’s guaranteed in this case but is there something else I should be doing? I’ve only had great experiences on here so am a bit upset about this transaction.
Any good advice?
Thanks in advance 🙂

Did you actually open a not as described case? Doesnt matter what the seller says.

Thank you for the response!
I did and the seller responded with the accusation. They accepted the return after I laid out my case but I’ve not received a shipping label yet.
They’ve not responded to my reply. Just want to make sure I’m following due process, I’ve never been accused of damaging an item from a seller.

f the seller doesn't supply the return label by the time eBay says they can step in (stated in your case) then call them and escalate the case. They will either refund your money on the spot or issue you a return label to send the rod back. Usually you get the return label.
Successful and experienced seller since 1997, over 70,000 feedback, boardie since the boards were begun.

I thought labels were automatically created when a SNAD case was opened … and can found in the 'return' file by the buyer?

If the seller accepted the return you will have had a label issued, you have 5 business days to get it in the mail otherwise the seller can call in and close it out in their favor, as for your feedback, you are aware as a buyer you cannot have anything but 100% so your history really doesn't count for much, that is unless you favor the Red doughnut with feedback you leave.

A seller can stall the buyer @2015mhfashions by clicking Accept the return, then does not upload, or have eBay issue, a return label:
