Question

Hello,

Im in need of someone to point me in the right direction, as I am trying to ship out a generator over the weight limit of 150lb, estimate weight being 178.0 alone, with pallets maybe up to 190-200lb. I’m honestly just not understanding how to do the freight shipping nor, even if I got that part figured out, how to go about actually going through them with eBay as I wouldn’t have the funds to purchase the label/shipping in the first place without the buyer paying for it through the freight shipping. Don’t know if this completely makes sense.
Im new to this, and just need a little bit of guidance and knowledge, and I’m willing to take all answers I can get and use it to my fullest.

Question

You can't purchase the freight label through eBay.

This page is a good reference for freight shipping on eBay and links to a list of freight carriers whose tracking integrates with eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/shipping/shipping-on-ebay/freight-shipping

Research your options. You should speak with the carrier to determine if they offer packing services or if you need to handle that yourself, if they have a lift gate for residential delivery, whether the quote covers inside delivery, what their insurance coverage is, do they have online viewable signature confirmation for delivery, what happens if the buyer refuses delivery for some reason, etc. Cover all your bases before diving in.

Keep in mind the risk factor. If a buyer files a claim (whether a true claim or a false claim), you're on the financial hook to deal with that. Some items are best sold with the Local Pickup Only option.

Many sellers use freight shipping quite successfully. If you jump in, do it with your eyes wide open. Learn all the potential outcomes before going that route.

Question

Many sellers have problems using LTL freight.

They might included buyer objections to curbside delivery, buyer refusal to pay for inside delivery, buyer unavailability when the trucker delivers. Add to that any issues relating to the conditions under which the truck will pick up from you. You will probably require a truck with a liftgate which raises the cost.

If you cannot afford to pay for shipping, you cannot count on receiving any money from Ebay before you ship.

You should have solved this problem before you listed this item. You now face a requirement to deliver what you might not be able to.

Question

If you have never done LTL freight before, eBay is not a great place to start.  Not only will it be expensive for a single shipment, but it will be an open ended shipment.  Meaning you may face charges at the end that you had no idea about.  I'm not even sure how I'd begin to quote it on ebay, once you need to quote freight at a national level without being a national account,  it's basically full price, no discounts

You almost have to charge your buyer for lift gate, residential, possible inside (inside means when a driver has to go inside a building, or walk to a location, and loses physical sight of their truck... drivers do not like doing that), and then refund the buyer back if any of these services were not used.

You really need leverage to be successful and affordable with LTL, in other words, you want another 10 pallets ready to be picked up, that you could otherwise cancel, if they don't waive a lot of the add on fees.

I hope you didn't actually sell it , and are just now trying to figure it out.  Have you looked into using Amtrak, and then have your buyer pick up at the train station?  Not sure it that is an option for you.

Question

On heavy items I would have recommended pick up only.  That way the buyer picks the item up. You scan the code that the buyer picked up and you are done with it. Unless you are truly experienced in the field which I know you are not if anything goes wrong Ebay finds you responsible and it would be difficult and costly for shipping back which you will be responsible for. With a pick up if something goes wrong buyer can just bring the item back to your location.

Question

For some unknown reason, unable to find any sold or unsold listings for you, although I do see that you have feedback as a buyer.

Was this sale under another ID?

Question

Is this the generator you sold on July 20 (10 days ago)?  If so, this is probably not going to end well.
