Question on Return Policy-Does it make any difference what it is?

If you specify a return policy with restocking (enough to cover ship to) does Ebay honor this on remorse buys? Or does this just make customers even more likely to use INAD to do return so they are not responsible for shipping? Presently have No Returns Policy (we already know how this works out) but always honor customer request regardless. It is just to discourage whim buying (customer thinking , oh I will just return it).

No matter what a customer tells me the reason for return is, request always states INAD,,,,free return shipping. I understand this is either a dishonest buyer situation or they think that Ebay pays for it or something.  Can you open the return as a seller so that the proper reason is stated once the message is recieved? Just wondering if anyone has toyed with this to see if there is a difference on outcome with buyers?

Just my opinion, others will disagree:

Having a friendly return policy boosts buyer confidence with the buyers who count (good, honest buyers) and will slow down false SNAD returns. When a buyer sees "no returns" they will make up a lie, not necessarily to have the return shipping paid, but just to have the ability to return the item.  (yes, I know seasoned scum buyers know the ropes. I'm talking about normal buyers who simply want to return something for whatever reason) Same goes for restocking fees.

If you have a buyer paid return policy, buyers can return on their dime if it's a remorse return and they won't have to make up a lie to do so, hence cutting down on FALSE SNADS.

I have a seller paid thirty day return policy. I've never had a return. Of course, I don't sell clothes or popular electronics and cell phones. If i did that, I'd have a 14 day buyer paid return policy.  I would NOT have a no returns policy. I believe in taking returns and will do so for any reason, or no reason at all.  But every seller is different, what works for me won't work for someone else.

All that said, if someone wants to steal your stuff...they will, regardless of any restocking fees or return policies involved.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

It all depends on what you sell. I've heard from many clothing sellers that a return policy doesn't cut down on SNADs. Also a return policy does not make a dishonest person honest, you will still get buyers who lie in order to get a full refund & free return shipping. In some categories returns aren't common.

Well under the Old Ceo JD   ,the flood gates for  phoney snads  where opened up  .  Since then  around  2015  the New Ebay Ceo  that took over ,Said he was working to  fix all the damge done under  the former Ceo .   Ebay been testing  a new return policy that does give more power back to the sellers .  The new 2017 seller  fall update  ,said  that  sellers  will geep 50% of the buyers refund : if item was altered by the buyer: i.e. they damged  the item or packaging, or return  item with missing parts.  However they don't get it  , that both Federal  and State Consumer and Merchant protection statues : State that buyers get no money  refunds on return altered items .

If eBay has this policy, buyers for the most part will use it to their advantage. I chose a "No Returns" policy when I got my first SNAD case and eBay said I had to accept because I had a return policy on it. EZPZ, I'll change everything to no returns. For the most part it works just fine. If you have a return policy with a restocking fee, most buyers will not be honest and just open a SNAD case just to avoid that fee (IMO). My SNAD was clearly fraudulent, the buyer stated they wanted X with the widget and the listing clearly said that X was not included in the purchase (in RED letters) so they lied and opened a SNAD case. I fought it and won, but it took days to fight it of me life.
