Yes the customer gets an email with the tracking number.
It will not show any movement until the first scan at USPS.
You can change the ship date in the SHIP ON FIELD in USPS labels on ebay.
This nice to change when you have afternoon shipments you want to pack, date tomorrow, ship tomorrow morning......

Actually, despite many comments here about eBay saying "your item shipped" what the buyer actually gets is a notice that the package "is being shipped". The difference between present tense and future tense is important and apparently overlooked by many. See the following. Note the 2 black squares. "is being" could mean that a label was printed but the package not handed over to carrier yet. As in a label printed on Sunday but not dropped off until Monday (your case). Although I have blanked it out, the notice includes the tracking number along with a link to the tracking screen, an estimated delivery date and the address where the package is going.
