Question About Returns

Okay, so after discovering the whole do not accept returns thing is a total waste of time, I am left with one issue.

Long story short, sold a used piece of electronics (tablet) and described it as such. The buyer was not happy and said it was defective (had a white spot on screen). So rather than end up minus the proceeds and the item I agreed to accept the return.

The issue I have is that I know it works, it was listed as used with minor blemishes, etc..it feels like I should not have to pay for the return shipping on top of the standard fees.

According to eBay once I receive it back I should make sure it works and get in touch with them and the buyer should have to cover the return shipping.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Question About Returns

On an INAD case, I've never heard of a buyer paying the return shipping... before or after.

Maybe you got one of the bad c/s reps when you called... because that was bad info. I'm sure the c/s rep didn't address just exactly you're supposed to approach an unhappy buyer with an invoice, huh?

Whoever communicated that to you from eBay is wrong ... but, that's typical.

Many of eBay's customer service reps are from the Philippines ... they are paid just a few dollars an hour, they don't speak English well, and they sometimes just make up stuff rather than saying "I don't know"  - there must be something in their culture that teaches "It is better to give a wrong answer than no answer at all."

Your description did not disclose any minor blemishes or a white spot on the screen (whether the buyer is telling the truth or not). The sum of your description is:

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 12.3", Intel Core I5, 128GB Wi-Fi Multi-Touch Tablet - Silver. Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.

Comes with:
2 - Chargers
1 - HDMI Adapter
1 - Targus protective case

As the above poster already said, CS did not give you accurate information. If you appeal after you receive the return you will lose the appeal and your final value fees.

If there's a white spot on the screen that's something that should be specifically mentioned in the listing, whether the tablet works or not. Just putting that out there in case you decide to re-sell the tablet once you get it back. Inspect it closely and disclose all flaws in the listing.

When a buyer files an INAD, the seller always pays return shipping, if they want the item back.

Have a great day.

Question About Returns

Thanks for the replies and yes I pretty much figured I was getting the short end of the deal here.

I guess I thought, incorrectly, that claiming an item was defective was different then "not as described". Also, I incorrectly figured I was covered by eBay's description of what used is.

Again thank you for the information. Next time...if there is a next time, I will have to be more specific.
