So i made the mistake of putting a package in the box at the post office without a shipping label.any help on how i can retrive the item?would they have to open it to make sure i know whats in it?also do they pick up on sundays at the post office cause i am planning to go in first thing in the morning.any advice would be appreciated.its a 700 dollar leica camera lens so im really worried 😷

Did you have a packing slip in it? You could always call them or go in Monday, I am sure they can help you.

This may sound silly, but I would write a note about the box with no label & a description of the item in that box & put it in a large manila envelope with your name & phone # and pray that whoever empties the bin sees it. Do that ASAP.

Mark the manila envelope with: BOX with NO LABEL. PLEASE READ ASAP.

I know the bins here get emptied on Sunday night about 8:00 pm.

I'll see if I can find the poster that works for the USPS and hopefully she might have a better idea.

Package sorting goes on in the wee hours, so be sure to CALL your PO sometime before 5 a.m. If no one answers, leave a voice message if possible. Indicate that you will be at the door before the PO lobby opens to retrieve the package.

Obviously, without a label, it won't go anywhere but you still need to alert someone -- in case they think the box is an explosive device. Is the package bin still accessible to you today? If so, place a large note (on poster board or taped to a corrugated box flap) inside the same bin where it will be seen immediately and matched up with your package.

I don't work for USPS but I've seen similar situations.

A friend was juggling letters and small packages at a neighborhood street collection bin and accidentally dropped her key ring (home, car, etc.) into the bin. Her husband, who was with her, had a duplicate set so being unable to get home and being locked out was not the problem. But she wanted her keys, which contained no ID!

She couldn't wait around all day for the mail pick-up so she raided a nearby dumpster for cardboard, wrote down her contact info and placed the odd-sized box flap into the bin. The mail person called my friend at her office several miles away and arranged to have the keys dropped off before 5 p.m.

I think this is key. Something that does not look like ordinary mail is most likely to be noticed.

Thank you for your input.im getting up at 4 am to go there but the p.o opens its doorsat 10 am.any way for me to get in contact with someone before they go pick up early morning.like the person who picks them up?im guessing they go through the back to pick things up.im so confused lol 😞

Sure. Be there at or before the scheduled pick-up time. If you do not have access to the actual bin -- bin inside locked lobby -- bang on the door and yell. Hope this situation has been resolved by now. ~~C~~

@easy_merch Could you post details about how you got the package back so that we and future others can have some idea what to expect if it happens to us?

Were they just like "No problem, eh, here you go"?

or was it a more formal process?

i went in first thing in the morning and talked to the young lady who sorts the mail that morning like at 7 am and she asked me for my name number and asked me to describe the package then called me back later that day.i honestly was ready for a hassle but it went smooth.
