A buyer ask me if I could ship a small item overnight and I agreed. It was supposed to arrive yesterday(Friday), but instead it was this morning(Saturday at 10 am). I contacted the buyer to let them know I contacted USPS, but they haven't responded yet.
The buyer said the item was for an event. Hopefully the event was later in the day and not before item arrived. Anyways, it does appear that USPS should refund the shipping charges, since the package did not arrive on the scheduled day.
Do I just request a refund on the USPS website, and is that even an absolute guarantee I will be refunded? Should I do that today or when exactly? In the meantime, am I required to refund the buyer the shipping charges right now, or do I wait until I'm refunded from USPS??
I've never had a situation like this. Thanks

Has the buyer opened some kind of case? You may not have a 'situation' yet...

Do I just request a refund on the USPS website, Yes
and is that even an absolute guarantee I will be refunded? No, but follow instructions and your chances are good.
Should I do that today or when exactly? Today or Monday
In the meantime, am I required to refund the buyer the shipping charges right now Not required but, Yes, you don't want an angrier customer, and hope the event wasn't last night.

No, but they paid $27 for Priority Express One Day shipping. It was scheduled by 12pm yesterday. I would assume they would expect a refund or idk. I wish I had not agreed to this. On USPS it does mention significant delays, but notes that Priority Express is the same. Oh, well now I know that's a lie.
The party/ event was today, so surely it worked out but haven't heard anything from the buyer.

I wouldn't worry to much about it right now, tomorrow, they might file an INAD and want to return it.
