Would just like to speak my mind a min,  For the Forth time this month I have bought an Item, On Buy now Listed Oh say $ 7.00 free Priority mail shipping. And Once again It is being shipped First class.. WHY? Now  I too am a seller and I ship First class and Priority  mail,

Priority mail is Expedited Shipping (USPS Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box)

Where First class is

Standard Shipping (USPS First Class Package) Its hard to sell as it is on here at times But That is not fair to list Priority mail then down grade shipping..... NOT RIGHT.

Down grading shipping is not fair. Sounds as if the seller wanted to save a few bucks. When you receive your item, contact the seller and let them know about it.Man Indifferent

Re: Priority Mail In Listing Shipped First Class ?

I am not defending the seller at all..just wanted to point out that first class is kind of priority mail for small/lightweight items.Usually first class arrives within the same time frame. BUT charging priority rates and shipping first class is NOT ok. If there was a signifigant difference in the amount you paid and what the seller paid, you DO have the option of filing an SNAD with paypal for "shipping cost issues" if the seller won't voluntarily refund you. Ebay's resolution center doesn't really address this common issue. IF you were to win an ebay SNAD, you would have to return the item for a full refund and I do know that some buyers have lost these cases. Others are told to return the item and thats not what they wanted to do. Good luck!

Re: Priority Mail In Listing Shipped First Class ?

Sounds like the seller erred when setting up their listings.    A $7 item with free priority shipping

The cheapest Priority cost is $5.95 for a 1 lb to Zone 1&2 Commercial Base (Plus would make it $5.75).  That's also the price for a plain Flat Rate Envelope.

50 cents to PayPal & 70 cents to eBay leaves $5.80 for item, shipping and packing materials.

When it's happened to me as a buyer, I politely let the seller know they made an error in their listing and may want to fix it for the next buyer who comes along.   Yes, I've seen them fix the listings.  And yes, they got positive feedback from me with all 5 star DSRs.

Agreed. If a seller uses "sell similar" it's easy to forget to change from Priority to FC, especially when using "free shipping".

Well It happened again Another  package says Priority mail But was shipped First class... And I am being told when they got to the post office they saw it was cheaper to ship first class...    I am getting real tired of Down grading and To me It does make a difference, I had 2 packages due Saturday...but was shipped First class so ..Wasnt a Priority  to get it too me..So it just sits at North Houston.... There is a difference In First class and Priority mail........

Re: Priority Mail In Listing Shipped First Class ?

As an eBay seller as well as working with the guys in the back from Shipping and coming into work every morning and packaging up 30-75 packages a day to be shipped from eBay or for my work's products, a lot of eBay buyers don't understand how this stuff works.

No offense to you at all, I agree with you actually!!

If a seller offers Priority Mail Shipping and is charging extra money for it and you (The Buyer) selects Priority Mail and then pays the extra money, YOU SHOULD BE RECEIVING THAT PACKAGE IN PRIORITY MAIL!

But for those who don't know this...

When you put a package on a scale, select where it's going, click "Weigh" and then select the Mail class it's being shipped in, ANY package the weighs over 1 pound can not be shipped First Class Package!!

It now has to be shipped Priority Mail and then you'd select like (Large Package/ Envelope) and depending on where the order is headed to will determine the cost.

A LOT of Sellers on eBay will usually select "Free Shipping" for First Class via USPS and then charge for "Priority Mail via USPS but what some don't realize is, the price will go up every 4 ounces right? So if something weighs 4.6 ounces I'm paying for the 4.1 - 8 ounce category to ship that item.  So what happens when someone orders something small that weighs like 2 ounces but the buyer has chosen Priority and paid the extra Idk $9.95 ?

To ship that 2 ounce package might cost like $25.00 depending on where they live lol!

So realistically, a Seller should either put free shipping on everything so when someone selects "Priority Mail but it's shipped First Class, oh well, it was free shipping lol.

Two more options:

1 - Don't even offer Priority Mail as an option in the first place!!

OR

2 - Go into your eBay settings and edit your listings in Bulk and fill out the Calculated Shipping for every "Zone"!!

This will help SO MUCH when you need to ship something Priority Mail that you sold for $20, the buyer paid $10 for the Priority Mail and to ship the item it costs like $28 lmao

I'm pretty sure all sellers know that.  Why did you resurrect a thread from 2017?

We can help you understand how to set up the shipping calculator correctly.

The maximum online postage cost for a package up to 1 pound via Priority Mail is $8.25.

Re: Priority Mail In Listing Shipped First Class ?

Thats not correct. Expediated shipping if used as a selection is 1st class also. I have been using it for many years

Re: Priority Mail In Listing Shipped First Class ?

eBay considers USPS First Class postage to be "Standard" shipping, not expedited.  You can see the categories on the listing from.

Re: Priority Mail In Listing Shipped First Class ?

First, a few of the above answers make reference to if the buyer was charged PM and then downgraded to FCM.

But the OP clearly said it was listed as free shipping. So the amount the buyer "paid" is not an issue.

That sais, yes if you are going to specify PM you should use PM even if you can ship it FCM.

As others have said it appears that the seller just clicked free ship and neglected to specify a service. Probably on the assumption that since it was FREE it didn't/shouldn't matter what service he used. Obviously that the was the main mistake.

Although I have found that shipping a FCM and a PM cross country frequently take the same amount of time. So usually PM would not have sped it up any. Not always, but enough times to be noticeable.

For example I recently sent a FCM from Nevada to NH on a Saturday and it was delivered Monday. PM is NOT going to speed that up.
