Post Office

My Post Office said they will no longer scan the labels I print off ebay. They say they are not accepting these pre-printed labels anymore. Of course eBay doesn't tell anyone like normal, they just continue to let you sell and let you suffer in silence when their system is broken. I've been on eBay for many many years and it just keeps getting worse.

Re: Post Office

I would make a complaint with the post master or higher up as that is that workers choice not to take it, not ebay. What they want is a scan sheet so they don't have to scan them in. Problem with that is not everyone does bulk shipping to create that scan sheet. But easy fix though just request a carrier pick up for your packages at your home.

Carrier Pick Up does not guarantee a scan.  So if the local Post office does not want to scan packages why would they not advise their drivers who pick up the items to save time and not scan the packages either?

That's insane. They do not get to make up new rules. Those labels are not just pre-printed; they're pre-paid. To the post office. So of course they are going to scan those labels, because the Acceptance scan is literally the second half of the transaction for which you have already paid. They take the package, scan the label to prove it has been Accepted, and out it goes.

"Pre-paid Mailpiece Acceptance" is right there on their Point of Sale terminal, middle row of the main screen, on the left. There is no requirement that you have to use an unattended drop box; they are required to scan the package no matter how it is presented.

Tell the knucklehead at the counter that he will be scanning the package, per USPS requirements, or you will ask to see the Postmaster. If they persist, report it on-line via the website. That's just ridiculous.

I could see them asking for a SCAN sheet if the OP was bringing in sizeable numbers of packages, but his Sold items list shows only 1-3 packages a day on average. It may be that some other customer(s) at his PO are bringing in significantly more, thus triggering this response by the PO, but it's totally misguided.

Re: Post Office

I've had them never Scan (showed as label created) an ESUS and won my insurance claim. I also video tape all items I mail out.

Your congressman? Why not start at the local level by contacting the Postmaster at that site?

Re: Post Office

It will still travel to the next location where it will be scanned in. That post office doesn't want to take the time however most carriers that pick up scan them in or the main facility will. She can also try a different post office. My post office sometimes won't scan them in when I drop off however when taken overnight to the next location it gets scanned in.

Re: Post Office

My po tried it and wants me to use the self serve box, I explained that the sign on the machine states that scanning into the self serve is NOT an acceptance scan.

I told them of how once before the packages went to the distribution center and didn’t get scanned till after midnight and I got penalized by ebay for shipping late.

they no longer talk about using the self serve kiosk and they still give me a receipt.

another po near me will not give receipts but will scan the box in.

That is a very good point.  I never thought about that.

I have always just worried about a lost package.  But I also store the scan receipt with my mileage log.  It is excellent proof I made a trip to USPS.

I would expect the Postmaster at the local level to know what his agents are doing and may actually support their staff not scanning the items.

There have been posts about this before from people in various parts of the country.  It seems like a trend that may be catching on within the USPS and it should stop.

Well, what the Self Serve Kiosk (SSK) does is a provisional Acceptance scan, meaning that it will acknowledge the label for mailing, but the package is not actually in USPS hands yet. (i.e. There's nothing to stop you from scanning the package and then walking out with it again.) The package is not considered to be fully Accepted and in the mailstream until it gets an in-network scan, such as by a USPS employee with a hand scanner or by an automatic scanner at the sort facility.

However, the good news is that eBay does accept a provisional Acceptance scan at the SSK to be proof of mailing. I do this routinely on weekends when the front desk lobby is closed but I have something ready for mailing. Once the SSK scan is uploaded to the network, eBay updates the tracking status to say that "The carrier has the package."

(One minor gotcha with using the SSK is that the drop box chute for depositing packages is not really all that big, plus it sometimes gets clogged with some knucklehead trying to mail 30 packages after hours, so I always make sure that the drop chute is clear before doing an Acceptance scan at the SSK.)

Re: Post Office

Scan sheets are worthless until each individual item gets its first scan  that could happen at drop off location or a  sorting center 50 miles away, meanwhile if any package is lost for any any any reason including sticky fingers disease ( yes we promise you its still around).....after so many years we learned the hard way and lost over $3600  watch recently.....USPS will not pay or honor any claim unless the tracking shows " USPS in POSSESSION " what most people don't know since usps disclaimer is next to impossible to locate in regards to the scan sheet  TRACKING receipt that is smartly worded for deception as such "Shipment Received, Package Acceptance Pending".....FREE ADVICE  > if you are shipping something  insured/expensive that you can not afford losing , NEVER EVER give to post office without an individual SCAN receipt ! DON'T USE THE BULK SCAN SHEET .

The SCAM SHEET deception is horrific lie......you might as well use KIOSK to scan packages and then put in drop box without getting any human attention to any particular package SADLY   😞
