Possible Scam

Hi I am fairly new to selling, about 2 months, buying since 2013. I sold a baby carrier last week, as used. The buyer asked before purchasing where was it purchased. I told her it was a gift at daughters shower. She purchased the carrier and sent me an email asking where it was purchased, it doesn't feel right and she's concerned about baby safety. I took pics of all labels, it is a genuine ErgoBaby carrier. She AGAIN asked me where it was purchased. I responded again telling her it was a gift but if she was unhappy with product, please return and I would refund her money for product. She is a seller on Ebay and list her location as Ireland but the mailing address was in New York. Should i do more or wait and see how she responds. I do not get a good feeling about this. Any insight from ol timers? Thanks

At this point in time, probably best to ignore your buyer, unless a request is opened.

I would not keep repeating myself. If she would open a return request all you have to do is provide a return label from the US based address you shipped it to. So if your buyer used a forwarding service she will be responsible to ship the carrier back from Ireland if that is what she done.

If she would file a SNAD return provide the label and stick to your guns, she must return for a refund. If she doesn't print the label and send it back within the 5 business days allotted to her call on the 6th day and have the return closed in your favor.

This smells like a scam attempt.  The buyer wants to return your used item to the store for store credit, and now has to figure out who stocked it.  How this would work from Ireland I have no idea, but it's been done before.

If she is in Ireland and the item was shipped to NY, it is possible she used a freight forwarder.  A freight forwarder is a company within the US that a buyer basically "rents" an address.  The freight forwarder then forwards the item to the buyer internationally.  If the NY address is actually a freight forwarder, your buyer has lost their buyer MBG in eBay but not in PayPal.  The good news is that if they open an INAD in PayPal, they have to pay return shipping.

Google the shipping address and see what comes up... probably a business name.

Pardon me for asking, but I don't see this information in your post:

Has she paid? Have you shipped?

Addendum:  And I don't see anything like this either sold or unsold under this ID???

I agree with evelyb. IMO the buyer wants to try to return it to the store is was purchased from. None of this needs to be your problem.

So far you have handled this excellently. If the buyer continues to contact you with these same questions. I would be blunt and respond with:

I do not know where this item was purchased and I have no way to find out. No matter how many times you ask me I still won't know. If you are dissatisfied, send it back and I will refund you.

Thanks!

And then I would not respond to anything but a return notice.

I guess that's possible, but it seems like an awful lot of work for a relatively small amount of money, plus the store would most likely only pay out a store credit without a receipt (i.e. not cash), and even then, without a receipt, they would likely only grant credit for the amount of the lowest sale price they have on record for that item.

While I wouldn't call it a scam, I'm wondering if maybe they just don't like it, but are hoping to avoid the rigmarole of boxing it up and shipping it back. (Does the tracking show that it has actually been delivered yet?)

That's another possibility.  I've seen the scam done here in the US, and people do it with free/cheap stuff at yard sales all the time.  I'm still not sure what stores they'd have in Ireland that would take a return of merch with a US bar code.

Yep. She's fishing for a NAD case in which she will probably return her OLD, USED baby carrier.
