Please print the return shipping label--but no label?

I want to return a defective item. Requested through Ebay to return the item. Seller agreed to the return. In my messages there was one saying: Please print the shipping label and send the item back to the seller by Feb 11, 2021, to receive your refund. When I click on "print label" button, it leads to a screen that says I've been refunded the full amount to my original funding source. But no label there to print. What should I do?

The purpose of returning the item is to get a refund. But the seller has decided to just refund, no return needed.

So you can throw the item away, donate it, hang it from a tree, etc.

Refunds should be shown on the purchase page if in fact the seller issued a refund without requiring a refund.  There will be a notation that your return is complete.  Check your funding source/account to see if you have received the refund.

Paypal is showing refund in progress -- should be complete by the 1st. Strange that I got that note in my messages to print return mailing label and send the item back by Feb 11...but there being no label provided to print. Oh well, I suppose the seller doesn't want the defective item back anyways, and, as long as nothing is expected of me, I can just forget about it and move on, right? Thanks for your helpful input .

I opened a return recently with an international seller.  They could not issue a return shipping label and elected to refund without a return.  However the case was still open in eBay with instructions to return the item.  If you have verified that your money was refunded you can just close the return, and in the comment box indicate that the seller has already sent a refund without requiring a return.

Wouldn't closing the case be IMPERATIVE?  Is there a situation where eBay possibly steps in and refunds the buyer anyway and now they are triple dipping?

It depends on how or whether the seller accepted the return request.  You can accept the return request but you have the option to send a refund with the buyer keeping the item which automatically closes the claim.  If the seller accepts the return and requires you to return the item for a refund they need to issue a return shipping label.    If it's an eBay issued label the tracking number is uploaded when the buyer prints it out.  If the seller sends their own label the buyer has to upload the tracking and carrier information.

However, international sellers can't send you a label, and therefore, must send you money to pay the postage.  After an international seller accepts a return for their refund the buyer needs to mark it as shipped, but they have to upload the tracking number and carrier used.   The buyer can then close the claim and indicate they received a refund from the seller without a return required. If the buyer doesn't mark it shipped the claim will close on it's own when it times out.    With these scenarios there isn't ant double or triple dipping.

Hi @agmdrip if the seller refunds without requesting the item back then you're going to get refunded without having to send it back. They aren't holding the funds, the refund can take 48 hours to process. Sometimes sellers will do this because they don't want to also be stuck paying return shipping, so they just refund without requesting it to come back. 

After they refund, if they do want the item to come back they would have to send an additional label, but your refund will still be processed.

I purchased a printer toner cartridge that is seriously defective (toner all over my printing and inside of my printer!).  I requested to return and chose "item is defective".  Ebay automatically accepted the return but I see nowhere to print a shipping label to return the item.  All I see is:

"It's important to let the seller know the item's in the mail and when they can expect it."

Why should I have to pay return shipping on this unusable item?   Messaged seller but no response.

It says that ebay will step in on July 19 if no resolution but since there is an automatic return acceptance I am guessing ebay  considers that a resolution.

What to do?
