Pay for Priority mail but item ships First Class Mail.

Years ago i filed a complaint to ebay as a buyer against a seller who charged me for Priority Mail but sent my item First Class Mail.  My argument was that i paid Lexus (Priority Mail) but received a Kia (First Class Mail). How can that be acceptable?  If i paid for a iPhone 10 and received a iPhone 9 that would totally NOT be acceptable. All i wanted was the difference between First Class Mail and Priority Mail. I lost the case.  I was told that as long as i received my item within the required time frame, there was nothing ebay would do.

This was several years ago.  Does anyone know if this is still the case?

What makes you think that First Class is a downgrade from Priority?  The Post Office does not think it is.

eBay categorizes First Class as Standard shipping; Priority Mail is categorized as Expedited shipping. While you can ship a package of under one pound as either First Class Package or Priority Mail, a Priority shipment will cost more, but give you either $50 or $100 of indemnity as well. (Technically, the FCP limit is 13.0 ounces over the counter, or 15.999 ounces if shipping on-line.) There may be no difference in travel time.

Re: Pay for Priority mail but item ships First Class Mail.

I was looking at purchasing a small item just yesterday and the shipping was $3.50 and listed as "standard (1st class USPS)".  I went and checked some of the sellers' feedback and saw they have received several negatives for shipping in PWEs for about $0.70 and no tracking.  It's clearly false advertising and the ol' bait and switch.  Shouldn't be tolerated.

On the subject of switching carriers, I won't buy from anyone that ships via Fedex because their track record is horrible when it comes to getting my packages delivered to me.  I've had them drop my stuff off at the end of my 1/4 mile long driveway (right by the mailbox/road), had them drop them about half way down the driveway (which still isn't visible from my house), also had them just put my stuff on a neighbors porch where it has sat for several days unnoticed.

Re: Pay for Priority mail but item ships First Class Mail.

Another more radical scenario (but still adhering to the same concept)...if a buyer paid $100 for overnight shipping and the seller just sent it 1st class for $5.  That would clearly not be what the buyer paid for (SNAD) and should be deserving of a refund.  Shouldn't be any different if the seller downgrades from priority to 1st class or 1st class to economy.

Plain white envelopes with FIRST CLASS postage ARE "1st Class USPS" mail.

That is not bait and switch.  The seller is mailing it by the service stated in the listing.

Re: Pay for Priority mail but item ships First Class Mail.

You must have my UPS delivery man.  I REALLY need CPAP suplies but I don't dare order as Apria only ship UPS.  I have asked them time and again to ship USPS to my P.O. Box.  NOT!!  I've found my supplies half way up the 1st hill in my 1/4 mile long driveway tossed by the UPS driver as far up the driveway as he can throw from his truck on the county road.  LUCKILY I happened to be going out that day and found the box or it would have been plowed under by my plow man. Since then I keep all my old supplies and limp through the winter months with no new supplies.

I do have good luck with FedEx~~last year I had 2 deliveries with them in the winter.  Both times they called me and I met them at the end of my driveway and they loaded the items into the back of my Blazer.  I need a 4 X 4 to get in and out so I was able to get out but they couldn't get in.

Plain White Envelopes are First Class. Lack of tracking is at the seller's risk, not the buyer's, although it does make it hard for the buyer to follow the progress of his shipment and see what day it's likely to arrive. There is no false advertising and no bait and switch, although the unhappy buyers may be miffed at seeing their $3.50 Shipping break down as 70¢ for postage and $2.80 for handling. I can send a First Class Package with tracking for less than that, but the seller you're looking at chooses to do things differently.

I was unaware, however the listing actually states "USPS First Class Package" and with the charge of $3.95 (not $3.50 like I originally thought), a buyer would reasonably assume that their item would come packaged more securely than just being tossed in an envelope.  Without a tracking number, the seller wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight against a refund anyway.

During the holidays, my local Fedex guy was delivering in a Uhaul truck.  First he claimed he couldn't find the address (there's a clearly visible street sign at the end of my road, 12" x 12" sign at the end of my driveway with all the addresses that can be found on the property, and a 24" x 24" wooden sign with a map showing which address belongs to which house when the driveway splits off).  I called and told them the address was correct and the driver should have no problem following clearly visible signs.  A few days later, I noticed about 5 packages (1 of mine and several of my neighbors) half way down the driveway, but one was still missing (tracking still didn't show anything as being delivered).  Another few days later, I was outside working on my truck and a Uhaul pulls up at my neighbors (they had been moving some stuff, figured they rented a truck).  Later that night, I noticed my package on their porch.  I've had countless other bad experiences with them, so I try to avoid buying from anyone that ships using them.

Re: Pay for Priority mail but item ships First Class Mail.

My worst experience with FedEx was years ago in the early spring.  They came in my driveway and there was one area that was muddy.  That driver screamed and hollered at me because it was my fault his truck got muddy.  I was happy though~~he had to drive through the same mud to get back out again.  Before I got a P.O. Box UPS would hang packages on my mailbox at the county road 1/4 mile from my house.  My sister sent me a sausage/cheese gift for Christmas one year.  I found that laying in a snowbank at the end of my driveway~~another UPS "delivery".  In the summer they are good but forget the winter months.
